Ranger David Worth
For those of you who have spent the night on a weekend night, you probably recognize Ranger Dave. Dave decided to run up the mountain this morning and see how fast he could get here. His time up Alum Cave trail was 52:22. Yes, you read that correctly. 52 minutes and 22 seconds. He came very close to breaking the all time record of 45 minutes. Dave says he will have to keep at it until the record is broken. Congratulations Dave!!!

Is this the same Ranger Dave I met at the Lodge in June? He could not "get through" to a group that day about visitor behavior around bear. They left him standing when someone yelled, "Bear!" That group was not on LeConte but I will be up for "two" nights on the 28th & 29th! Love your reports!

That's quite an impressive feat; Almost hard to believe, but as I've never been a runner, I am not qualified to make any statement one way or another on it; I'm satisfied just to make the hike up there to the lodge !

@ Tom - We will be heading up on the 27th and staying 2 nights. See you there. Can't wait. And like Doug said above, I feel blessed and thrilled to just make it to the lodge. Seems like the older I get, the more "modest" my goals become.

Let me be the dissenter here, and suggest that, to me, running up the ACB kind of goes against the spirit of the mountain. It is an impressive feat, to be sure......but LeConte is not to be run, but walked, or even strolled......

The word "perambulate" comes to my mind, but I feel that there's another which would be much more suited to describing the hike to the lodge. I don't hold running up as anything wrong, but as Ron above said, the hike is more aptly served through walking. My motto is: "The Journey is the Destination"

Way to go Ranger Dave!

I think any way you want to arrive at the summit is up to you. If you want crawl, hike, run, stroll or walk up the mountain...anyway you can get there, do it!!

I'll bet that Ranger Dave has walked this trail before, why not try it another way?? Just another way to enjoy our park!

Awsome Rangeer Dave,52 minutes running seems quick. How far miles and much altitude gain is Alum Cave trail. We plan on going up to Mt. Leconte near future.

Ranger Dave is the man. We were up for a couple days over Labor Day weekend and sat in on a couple of his talks.

Wow!! Takes us 3 hours!! I sure do wish I could hike it every week. I live in Michigan and its a 12 hour drive to get there. Once a year is about all I can make. And the more I go, the more I want to do it again. Alum Trail is us beautiful!! Put your traxx on and go because it gets slippery at the top the end of March But the views are just to die for!!!!!!!! I put in the lotto for next fall. Sure am hoping I get a spot.
