Picture
The mountain is filled with bird songs this morning. They must know that cold temperatures are on their way and winter is just a few days away. The birds are busy eating every last seed they can find. It is interesting to see the transition with the different species. The squirrels seem to move to lower elevation when the acorn crops become abundant. The bears disappear. The birds fatten up. It is nice to live at a slower pace where we notice the small changes.

Blessings! I too wish I were there. I have 9 more days to be looking at you from our place. First thing this morning went to computer to see a picture, too early. I think I might have a problem wonting to be there instead of here. I look forward to another season.Stay warm..

Allyson, I just wanted to express to you again how much I appreciate your providing this daily post. Your pictures are beautiful, and it has become a special morning ritual to visit and hear about what's happening on Mt. LeConte. I was glad to read that the winter caretaker will continue with the posts.

I was not able to get a reservation for next year, but will be on the waiting list, and hopefully things will work out. I have been coming to LeConte Lodge since 1986 and have missed only a couple of years.

I pray that you and your crew have a wonderful Holiday Season and a New Year filled with good health and happiness. We are going to miss you over the winter. God bless!

We just got home from being there... we hiked up Trillium on Monday and stayed overnight. It was my husband's 4th trip but my 1st. Everyone was soooo nice, we really had a good time. When we got down the mountain we went to the reservation office in Pigeon Forge and were able to make reservations for 2 nights next year in April. Can't wait...

We were on Mt Leconte yesterday. We hiked out to Myrtle Point and enjoyed the great view. Now waiting for our trip next year.

I was up on LeConte this day and I also was amazed at how many birds (particularly Robins) were flitting around camp. In fact, I saw a Golden-winged Warbler from our lodge porch. Not too many people would agree with me, but this was actually more exciting to me than the bear sighting we had in camp the same day.
