With the mountain ash berries in full swing, our big friend has been visiting us for the past few days. He seems to be fond of the grass and the mountain ash berries. The sun is rising and giving the promise of another stellar day on top.

Hiked Mount Cammerer yesterday. Wind was brutal up there, but some awesome views. We found evidence of the bears eating mountain ash berries right in the middle of the trail several times. Funny sight, took a minute to figure out what we had found. Climbing Mount Couch today to rest some tired legs. Hope your day is good.

Allison it was great to see you , Henry and the crew yesterday.What a beautiful day for a hike. Was wondering if you got to see the golden retriever that we saw above the bluffs.We thought that would go well with all the bear sightings.....
We saw Chrissy at Inspiration point on our way down,
it was good to talk with her. Ya'll do a great job, can't wait till April.

Great wildlife photo. I'm assuming the bear is close to the lodge.

Are they more active with the cooler temperatures?

Allyson,
Great picture, but I've seen you in action. I'm guessing you decided to get the shot, THEN unleashed the usual conflagration of yells and rocks designed to make his visit fairly unpleasant. Is that right? Best guess of his weight? Is he a known bear? I don't see a tag.

@tomk,
the bear was in camp. Chris was taking the picture as the other crew members were heading around the corner with rocks in hand. He looks to be about 150 lbs. No ear tag. He looks healthy and has a beautiful coat. He has been coming around camp for the last couple of days.

My wife and I hiked up yesterday and I am glad we did not run across this guy. I did see several berries along the trail close to camp that looked out of place and scatterd, so maybe he was actually on the trail eating at some point. Friday at camp was cool, we meet some really nice folks on our day hike.

Should I be concerned about the bears as I travel? Coming from Rainbow.

My friend and I went up via rainbow falls saturday night. We just barely made it to the top as the sun went all the way down. Within the last mile or so we saw two different piles of berry bear stool right on the path. We were too tired to think much of it, and awful grateful to spend the night in the shelter. It is a great trail and an amazing mountain. Having the cabins at the summit is quite an enjoyable luxury--and a formidable shelter to spend the night in. It was a wonderful trek; I am glad someone at the falls told me on my way down about this picture!
