Ready Or Not, Winter Is Here

It looks like a winter wonderland minus the snow on the ground. The trees are frosted over and shine like crystals in the sunlight. We don't have actual snow on the ground, but we got a few flurries yesterday. It was brisk 28 degrees up top. That did not seem to deter the day hikers. We were extremely busy up top. Let's just say we broke a record on the amount of hot chocolate we made yesterday. The low last night was 22. There seems to be even more frost draped over the trees this morning. I may not be ready for winter but it sure is a beautiful sight.

Thank you for the wonderful lunch yesterday. That was our first trip up and we really enjoyed it. Hot chochlate really hit the spot after the COLD hike up.

Hi. I enjoyed seeing the wonderful majesty of our mountains here in Tn. I appreciate this website so much. I have multiple sclerosis and am confined to a wheelchair, so I will never see this beauty in person. When I was much younger, I am 50 now, I hiked the short distance to Clingman's Dome. I was healthy then, and almost died trying to make that trip. I dont think even then I could have made the trip to the top. It's hard to believe you get paid to see God's glory in its prime every day. I love the Smokies.

Thanks for all the great shots. I love the smokies but haven't made it there for a couple of years. This keeps it very much in my mind.

Thanks for maintaining this wonderful website...I reference on a daily basis during the winter to chack out your low temps and snowfall...Im always in awwe of how the great mountain of east TN can cause snow all by itself.

Our group was with you Thursday night for our 20th year. 18th summit for me, personally. (I'm the one who brings the marshmallows). Probably the windiest ever (for me) at Cliff Tops sunset. Definitely felt the cold front coming in Fri morn! Very, very clear views on the way down Trillium. As always, we enjoyed our stay. Thanks!

We so enjoyed these photos and postings last winter and were reminded to check for the latest when we saw the white tops of the "far blue mountains" from Maryville today. My 12-year old son wants me to ask you how he might go about getting a job like yours on Mt. LeConte so that he can be the first to see snow each year? ;-) (Serious question!)

Not only LeConte gets a sign of whats to come. We got some of that Winter preview up here in central Pennsylvania, at elevations above 2000', we got around 2 1/2" of snow in the morning, but was quickly dissipated by rains later.
