Morning,

It was a nice day on the mountain yesterday. The high was 28. The low was 11. It was 15 and clear at observation. It was cloudy much of the day, then cleared up just after dusk. The stars were fantastic. It looks like we'll have a cool, clear day today.

Awesome pictures!!! I came up Alum Cave Trail last year in March.Coming up this year in March also and thinking about taking a different trail. Any suggestion on which to take?

My girlfriend and I hiked up to the Lodge on that day (29th) it was our very first time up to the top. It was an absolutely beautiful day, although a bit dangerous with the falling ice and the ice on the trails. We hiked to Rainbow Falls on the 28th and didnt have enough time to make it up so decided to come back the next day via Alum Bluff... It was amazing! the coolest and the most difficult thing I have ever done. The elevation had my wind on the way up and I had to soul search a bit at the Bluff to continue, even though I consider myself to be somewhat inshape as an ex semi pro football lineman at 250#.....I made it with the support of my Girl, Melanie and our new friend Brian, who we met after the Bluff up the trail,. He was on his way back down after deciding not to continue but when he talked with us he changed his mind as we invited him to travel with us. Turns out he was making his 417th trek to the Top. They waited patiently often, as I trudged up the trail picking up my heavy legs, and taking short breaks. The Ice was very treacherous and Melanie had a few close calls - thank goodness for my strong hand and the cables! I have been perusing through your blogs and pictures as I am now somewhat intrigued by Mt LeConte and all it has to offer. We need to come back very soon and hope to be able to stay in the Lodge so we may experience the Top in all of its fabulous glory, from the dinner and sunset to the breakfast and the sunrise...Le Conte has my attention! I eagerly await my #2

The 29th of Jan,2011 was one of the most amazing days of my life!!!! I not only reached the top of Mt.Le Conte, but I was in the company of my boyfriend Eric. This was the first time for the both of us. Though the hike up was tough and a tad bit scary,with my fall on the ice, I had Erics strong hands to help and the reward at the top was well worth it. Never would I have imagined that it would be so peaceful and breath taking at the top!! Together,my boyfriend and I made an amazing accomplishment and look forward to many more trips up!! Mt.Le Conte will be seeing us again....VERY SOON!!!!
