_Morning,

The high yesterday reached 48 degrees. The low was 38 degrees. It was 46 degrees and drizzling at 7am observation. The mountain received 3.32" of new precipitation yesterday. There is no more snow left on the ground. The trails are clear of ice, but are still very wet. Enjoy the day.

I hope everything is okay with JP. I see his picture was removed from the top of the main page. They just have a picture of the lodge in snow. I know his knee wasn't in perfect shape, hoping nothing worse happened. Miss the quotes and his unique insight on things.

Last time LeConte got 4 inches of rain in a day, back in August, there was a giant landslide from Alum Cave trail down past Big Duck Hawk. With the rain continuing today, I'm sure there must be new slides somewhere on the Anakeesta slopes.

apanese gardens are known for portraying a quiet beauty, attention to detail and a reflection of nature. These qualities should be taken into account when planning a Japanese garden and during the selection of plants.

Get a personal trainer. If you’ve never set foot in a gym, don’t try to learn how to do it on your own. You’ll never see results. Trainers can also tailor a workout that fits your goals and help motivate you to accomplish more than you thought you could do.

I just read about a tragedy on the Ozark Trail. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/01/14/air-force-veteran-and-his-2-sons-die-while-hiking-missouri-trail/ Please be prepared whatever your hiking plans may be.

Terrible tragedy. Shows how fast you can get into trouble in the wilderness. Thoughts and prayers are with that family.

JP always tells us when he will be off the mountain. Something is not right. Wish LeConte would tell us what is happening. We are all loyal
followere and deeply care for JP and LeConte. Allyson or LeConte, please tell us if everything is ok. We are all worried. This isn't normal here.

Yes, I agree. I read the blog every day, and we are always informed of the happenings as if we are all family. This just does not feel good. Why can't someone tell us what is going on? We are deeply concerned. Is JP alright???? Hello????

I defininitely remember JP mentioning a trip out west and this, I think, is the week he was supposed to be gone; I asked him who was filling in for him, but he never said; sometimes the lodge personnel don't always give us the information we want, but that's allright. Nice photo of the trail in fog; I almost missed the second hiker in it. Sunshine, clear skies, clouds, sunrises, sunsets, wind, rain, storms, snow, ice, and fog - - - all make for interesting photographs. I'm trying to find some old 35mm photos I took at the lodge and along a couple of the trails leading up back in the late 70's and early 80's, but I fear they're lost or very misplaced; I still have a few boxes to look in from when I moved to where I am now. If I find them I'm going to try to transfer them to a format with which I can post them to my new website which I'm about to start up. I just need to learn how to do that. I think that Allyson and Chris are about to depart for Africa, tomorrow perhaps......They'll have a great time I'm sure. G'day.

Relax folks. On 8 JAN JP posted that he was going to San Diego "next week". Add a week to 8 JAN and you get 15 JAN. This week used to be next week. JP is in San Diego unless he changed plans. My guess is that things are either going by the numbers or he is improvising by choice. I'm guessing he will be back some time NEXT week, like the 22nd or so.

I called the number above at 10:00 AM. The response by the receptionist was that "JP is definitely still on the mountain". Said she'd have Tim the General Manager call me. I agree, its strange the photo has been removed, and his notice of absence was minimal, at best. I really enjoy his postings.

People please. I spoke with JP last night. He is fine & on the Mtn. He hasn't left for San Diego yet. He is ok. For goodness sake give him some privacy. Would you want to be discussed in such a way over the Internet?!?!

Sherry, I am sorry you viewed this as a disturbance of privacy. We simply were concerned and care, that's all. Glad to hear all is well. Thank you for sharing this, as many of us were puzzled with sudden absence of his daily reflections, etc.

Sorry Sara for the snippy comment. I personally am a very private person & sometimes people just aren't in the mood to be social & need some time & space. I'm not speaking for JP however . Just going on how I would feel. Again, sorry to be so snippy.

Oh, I'd love to be hiking right now, with no ice on the mountain in January. How great is that. I can barely make it out of my driveway in Michigan. Granted, its all ice going out, but no ice on the road. Its just getting there. I'm too stubborn to put on the trax to go a quarter of a mile. And those guys are in shorts and tshirt. Auggghhhh! So jealous. Another strange winter, but I will enjoy the no snow in Michigan and love the shorts pics in Tennessee. Good day all.

Since the weather has been overcast/rainy for the past couple of days, JP might just not have power to do much other than communicate the weather reports. Remember that their only source of power is solar.

Right tomk; I don't blame some for almost getting their "knickers in a knot", so to speak, for, I , too, had a level of concern, but perhaps JP's comment on his upcoming mini vacation was missed; I, as some also do, wonder about his photo, but the lodge's internal business affairs are their own. And Tony Ga: I even went and looked at the photo again, thinking that perhaps there was a third hiker that I had missed, but that's probably a an effect of me viewing too many History Channel "mysteries", etc. ! And Sara: JP is employed as an employee catering to the public, however limited that number may be, and in no way are questions about him an invasion of privacy; if you communicae over and through the internet capabilities, then you are somewhat subject to close inspection. Yet, I think JP does deserve a certain level of privacy; I hope he enjoys the west coast. I wonder if the mountain will be iced over by tonight !? G'day

I've always known the longer you look at a pic, the more you see. I missed the second hiker, too! Guess this should teach us all a lesson to slow down and take in life more carefully! Thanks for mentioning the second hiker!! Will pay more attention the next time! Hope you are okay JP! Whatever the case may be, will continue to check the posts daily!!

I would suspect that with all the negative comments one of his quotations last week garnered that he is laying low and not trying to rock the boat. If that's indeed the case, it's a shame a small group with their panties in a wad have had the ability to reduce this blog to nothing more than a weather report.

i agree some took his quote last week with a little outrage and it did not sit well i guess with the lodge, I hope that is not the case! sometimes you gotta just take them with a grain of salt! dont be so self rightous folks, and welcome JP back ASAP!!

Whcih small group do YOU belong to MH ? "Panties in a wad" "Knickers in a knot" it takes all kinds of people and comments and even if you're too thin-skinned and get offended by innocuous remarks, then, well, you do have the right to make your own comments, but this blog is here for just that isn't it, or not ? Whatever the case, I agree, it has gotten a little sticky. If someone posts a simple honest observation, stating just the facts, and other readers post nasty replies only because they themselves object, reacting immediately with raw emotion rather than objective introspection, then perhaps the company that runs the lodge should eliminate the page; they're in it for the money anyway. The lodge is a great place to visit and will remain that regardless of narrow-minded individuals.

I think this all has got out of hand this time because, usually Allyson is watching and will delete negative comments before they get out of hand. I have had my comments deleted before and they should have been. Maybe things can get back to "normal".
