We are hiking up on Friday and have been unsuccessful in finding the crampons/yak trax for our boots. Does anyone know where we can purchase the necessary equipment to hike up on the snow close to Ashville, Waynesville, or Cherokee, N.C.
This will be our first trip to Mt. Leconte Lodge

Thanks

Hi Teresa, Just read your entry. We are hiking up on Sunday and I ordered my Yaktrax from REI and paid 2 day air. You might still have time to get them next day if you call today. Otherwise, I know that there is a good outdoor store in Highlands, NC called Happy Hiker, or just call any outdoor store. Good luck finding them, this is our first trip to Mt. Leconte too and I was not planning on an ice hike, yikes!
Have a safe trip.
Diane

Hi Teresa, got lucky and found a pair of yaktraks at Smoky Mountain Outfitters in Gatlinburg over the phone, talk to Dawn and tell her I said Hi.865-430-2267.

You can get Yak Trax at REI and I would think maybe that Mast General might have them in their hiking section.

I ordered my Stabilicer cleats through Amazon and got them within 36 hrs; t-shirt looks interesting; have to wait a week to get mine; spent yesterday amongest the highest mountains in Kentucky: Big Black Mountain in Harlan Co.; only about 4400 ft and impressive with deep valleys; not quite my Smokies, though; glad the season is underway now;

This will be a perfect buy for those people who visit Le Conte. The T-shirt is designed according to the shape of mount Le Conte and they also tried to include different winter sports conducting there. I will definitely buy one soon. Thanks for sharing its design.
