Hey folks, Allyson here. I ran into Jim Renfro, the Air Quality Specialist for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and he told me he had some cool data he thought you might enjoy. Jim keeps up with all kinds of weather data for the park. He sent this to me and I thought I would pass it along. "Snowfall for this past December measured 53 inches (looks like a record). So, the 2009-2010 (Dec, 2009 - Mar, 2010) snowfall was a record (138.5"- over double the average); Feb,2010 was a record (52"); and Dec, 2010 was a record (53"-only 34" last December, 2009). So, off to a snowy start this winter." - Jim Renfro Well, It seems the previous post drew some heat. Nature is a powerful force that isn't controllable, I'm not saying anyone, including myself, is immune to winter. But, there are proper precautions with gear and supplies. When I see people wandering around up here in T-shirts and jeans in the snow on a regular occasion, it's frustrating. The reason I am here is to watch the lodge and assist people that need help. The sleeping bag situation happened recently, I did not turn them back to the cold. Because I am up here isn't an excuse to come to Mt. LeConte unprepared. Please be prepared and know your own limits. I apologize if I came off as rude. 3" of Snow Already Today, More on the way. Kombucha is a fermented Tea with Medicinal qualities. Black Tea, A cup of sugar, and a kombucha scooby on top. yumyum. goodnight.
