Happy Saturday! Yesterday ended our warm streak as we stayed at 45 degrees for a majority of the day with 3.54 inches of rainfall over the past 24 hours. Needless to say, the stairs to the dining room looked like a raging river. Overnight, the snow started at around 11:00 and as of now, we have received 1.5 inches of snow. Our low last night was 23 degrees and it continues to drop throughout the early hours this morning. We aren’t expected to warm up much today so if you plan to summit, bundle up and don’t forget those traction devices! 441 (Newfound Gap Road) remains closed currently and we have received reports of flooding on Rainbow Falls Trail from our guests that arrived last night. We strongly recommend that if you are planning to reach the lodge today, use Bull Head or Trillium Gap trails. If you do wish to use Trillium Gap, Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail remains closed so you will need to park at the Rainbow Falls trailhead and walk the two mile connector trail, or along the road, to the Trillium Gap trailhead. The hot chocolate and coffee are ready and our heaters are on full blast ready for you to reach the top. We hope you have a fantastic day and that you get the chance to hike up to see us today! Sunrise is peeking through the clouds on this beautiful morning.

Good morning,
Yesterday was another beautiful one filled with sunshine, animals running around and warm temps with a light breeze. This morning however, we woke up to quite the opposite. The calming heavy rain and high wind gusts are keeping our overnight guests in their warm cabins until they come to the dining room for breakfast. A total of 1.35 inches of rain overnight fell and should continue throughout the day. Overnight tonight, our temperatures are predicted to drop into the upper 20s as that rain turns into a snow that should continue throughout the day tomorrow. Over the next 48 hours, remember those traction devices and warm layers. Additionally, our office will be closed today in observance of Good Friday. If there are any road closures today, you can find that information on the Smoky Mountain National Park Road Info Twitter page or on our Facebook. 441 is currently closed. As of now, if you wish to summit, either Bull Head or Rainbow trails off of Cherokee Orchard Road will be your way up. Good morning all,
With another warm day behind us (62 degrees) we are preparing for the anticipated cold snap. While snow chances are diminishing, we are still predicted to have rain showers beginning late tomorrow and throughout the day Saturday ending with a small chance of snow as the sun sets and temperatures drop. If you plan to summit this weekend, check our website as well as the Smokies Road Info Twitter for road updates as our office in Sevierville will be closed Friday in observance of Good Friday. Additionally, don’t forget those warm layers and traction devices! For today, we should remain in the mid 50s with a light wind adding an unexpected chill. Our crew is preparing those warm beverages you all love so much, and can’t wait to see you at the top. Good afternoon,
Our dear llama friends are back in action again after a short break due to bad weather. And they have been SHEERED!! As cute and silly as they look, they are getting ready for the heat of the summer. With that said, Friday is expected to be a chilly one so the llamas will not be coming up that day. Instead, they will be making a bonus trip tomorrow, Thursday, April 18th. But on the bright side, we are looking forward to the rest of today and tomorrow as we sit in the upper 40s to mid 50s. Yesterday, our high was a HOT 60 degrees making it the hottest day of the year to date. This Friday, we will begin a cool down leading into a COLD Saturday with an expected 10 inches of snow. More updated information will be provided as we near closer to the weekend. We hope to see you at the top! Good Morning,
Another wonderful weather day here at the lodge. With views all the way to the valley floor below and not a cloud in sight we couldn’t be happier. With so much direct sunlight we are warming up fast. It is currently 55 degrees with last nights low in the upper 20s. No rain on the forecast today. With such high temps any icy areas are sure to melt off. we would like to give a shoutout to some overnight guests, the Jim and Grif Morpeth party. They have been visiting the lodge since the late 70s and made it for a nights stay last night. They have been bringing friends and family with them ever since to help spread the joy of the mountain. Their favorite trail is Alum cave because of the wonderful views it has to offer. Jim says he has been at the lodge in all kinds of weather conditions, snow, rain, clouds and sunshine but no matter the weather he loves every visit and can’t wait to come back. Good Morning,
After a few days of stormy weather we are excited to see the sun today. A few clouds are lingering overhead but should be clearing off by late this afternoon. We had a cold front move in on us, last nights low was clocked in at 21 degrees. Even though the sun is shining we are not warming up very fast. It is currently 23 degrees and todays high is expected to be in the low 30s. Yesterday we received 1.5 inches of rain and with these below freezing temperatures you can expect icy conditions on the trails. Traction devices are advised. This cold weather is not expected to stay for long as tomorrow we are looking to be in the mid 50s. Good Morning,
Crew are all huddled inside by the heaters this morning as 60 mph winds and light rain pour down on us. The light showers feel like a heavy downpour with the high winds. Cabins are shaking with the winds but they are toasty. at 47 degrees outside, our heaters are running on high keeping guests and crew warm. Overnight, we received .35 inches of rain and our low was a chilly 44. Today, the rain and high winds will continue but should fade out in the late afternoon leaving us chilly at around 30 degrees as we head into tomorrow. Rain gear, warm layers and possibly traction devices (in anticipation of a possible overnight freeze), are recommended this afternoon and for tomorrow. Stay safe out there and we hope to see you at the top! Good morning all,
All of camp is chilly and wet this morning as we have been receiving scattered showers since 6:30 this morning. These showers should continue into the weekend and on Sunday, there is a possibility of snow. It may not be time to put those traction devices away yet! More information will be posted on here tomorrow as we get closer to Sunday. High winds have been hitting us hard causing reports of down trees on surrounding trails. On that note, the llamas will not be making it up the mountain today but will attempt to summit tomorrow. If you are planning a hike today, remember those warm, waterproof layers as we should remain around 45 degrees with wind and rain throughout the rest of today. We hope to see you at the top huddled by our heaters drinking a warm beverage! A friendly reminder to all that this weekend in Pigeon Forge is the annual Rod Run. Expect high congestion on the roads with heavy traffic delays. Advised to find alternate routes if planning on driving through Pigeon Forge to avoid a late summit reach. Good Morning,
Today is looking to be another clear sunny day. High winds, 30 mph, are hitting all around the summit today pushing clouds in and out. No rain on the forecast for this afternoon but looks like a bit of rain for tomorrow. Temperatures are on the rise after an overall low of 35 last night. We are currently at 46 degrees and expecting to see the mid 50s. With such high winds it feels a little colder though so be sure to bring those layers. A friendly reminder to all that this weekend in Pigeon Forge is the annual Rod Run. Expect high congestion on the roads with heavy traffic delays. Advised to find alternate routes if planning on driving through Pigeon Forge to avoid a late summit reach. |
