...said nobody ever.
It was 60 yesterday, 60! How wonderful. It dropped to 42 and is currently (as of 9:12) 48 degrees. And overcast. It tis a bit of a disappointment. So, the sun came out. And now it's misty and slightly chilly. The high yesterday was a whopping 52! That's hot! It dropped to 42 and us on the mountain are hoping the SUN will come out again. It would be best to pack rain gear today.
The llamas are coming up also! Remember that Alum Cave trail is closed Monday through Thursday and plan accordingly! It's becoming habitable outside! It warmed up to 31 yesterday and didn't drop lower than 29! Saying camp is slushy is an understatement. The weather should be better today and next week, haven't heard anything about any more snow (hopefully.)
The llamas are coming up tomorrow! Please leave room for them in the Trillium parking lot, the boys appreciate it. Remember to pack out everything you pack in! It was a cold, windy day on the mountain with the high 29 and low 26 with about 3 inches of snow. All of the guests made it last night. It is currently 30 with warming trend predicted, but still will be windy. Dress in layers. The snow line seems to be about 4000 feet and above. The trails are slushy and icy in some places. Be prepared for wet and cold feet so pack extra socks. Ice traction devices are recommended as a backup if the temps drop tonight, the trails could be icy in the morning. As of 8:00 this morning Hwy 441, Newfound Gap Road was closed. Call 865-436-1200 x 631 or twitter for updates: https://twitter.com/smokiesroadsnps. Hopefully it won't be closed for long.
As you can see from the photo below it was a windy day on the mountain. The fire hydrant is used in the event of fire, yes, they have fire hoses on the mountain. 39 for the high, 29 for the low, and a 1/2" of snow!
It sounds like places above 5000 feet are getting snow and rain for everywhere else. Pack waterproof, layered, and possibly bring footwear traction. We might receive more snow today -- we'll keep you posted! It is chilly up here guys! It only reached 47 yesterday, then dropped to 31. It's dropped a degree during the past 2 hours and is still very misty. There is a possibility of snow (!) at the higher elevations. If you hike up within the next two days bring warm, rainproof, breathable clothing! The llamas are coming up today!
Say hello if you're coming up Trillium. The Alum Cave trail is undergoing maintenance until November and will be only open Friday's through Sunday's so please plan your travels accordingly! It's raining guys! Rainy, misty, chilly, and off and on rainy. It only warmed up to 58 degree, chilling down to 44 overnight. Bring your gaiters and rain gear! Keep your eyes open for bears up around the lodge and let us know if you see one.
Park service brought their mules and horses up today with supplies for Alum Cave! Horses today and llamas tomorrow! A chilly 60 was overcast, misty, sunny, just plain odd weather. We were bracing for torrential downpour and nothing really happened. Oh well. 49 was the overnight low, but not chilly, but we were treated to a show watching the storm over Pigeon Forge Bizarre! It sounds like we're in for rain this week so don't forget your umbrella coming up!
Technically, it wasn't our camp. A bear ran through the shelters camp last night and sounds like he's going to hang out for a bit. It was a good night for a run though, 48 degrees after a 60 high, albeit the cloudy drizzle has turned the mountainside into a bit of a ghost town. Made some new friends last night who knew how to collar mice.
It was terrifying. Remember your rain gear today! |
