It was a wet weekend at the Lodge. They had an early morning thunderstorm today, so be prepared for wet and muddy trails. High yesterday was 66, low 57. Today should be similar with rain predicted off and on. A new bear has appeared at the Lodge over the weekend and so far has not become a nuisance. Allyson and Chris are on their way back from California and due back at the Lodge Wednesday.
The high was 70, low 55 yesterday. It was 61 at 8:30 this morning. Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is still closed, but if you would still like to see the llamas, make an early hike to the Lodge on Monday, Wednesday or Friday. Alan and the llamas are usually there by noon and stay about 2 hours. You will find the llamas behind the dining room munching on pancakes and llama chow. Alan may be eating lunch or on a really nice day, take a break and go out to Myrtle Point or Clifftops while the llamas enjoy the break. Chris and Allyson, have a good trip. The high yesterday was 61 and low 54 with .74 inches of rain. It is sunny and cool on the mountain this morning. Time to recharge batteries while the sun is shining.
Chris and I are off for the next 8 days. I am heading to California for a wedding. We are currently in the clouds and looking like rain for today. I thought I would leave you this parting shot of sunset.
Cabin 10's porch gives a great view. It was blue skies for Sunday. The high reached 72 degrees. It is now thundering and raining pretty heavy. What a difference a day makes! It was cool day up top. The high was 68 with a low of 48. It is starting out to be a beautiful day today.
The rain dances helped. The mountain received over half an inch of rain yesterday and it looks like more for today. We reached 72 degrees yesterday. The fog has settled in and it is currently sprinkling.
The beebalm is starting to bloom. It won't be long until camp will be covered in color. The high yesterday was 72 with a low of 55. We are hoping it will rain today. It is beginning to get a bit dry up top. Luckily, our spring has never run dry.
You can tell it is July on Mt. LeConte. The forest floor has changed so much in the last 4 months. I love to see the sea of ferns that take over during the summer months. Everything is so lush and green. I will enjoy it now, I know how quick the seasons change on this mountain. We reached 72 degrees yesterday. I am sure today will be even warmer.
The monkshood are beginning to bloom. This is one of my favorite flowers on the mountain. The days are getting warmer. Yesterday the high was 69. It was a beautiful day to hike up and enjoy the views. It won't be long until the mountain top is exploding with different colors from the many wildflowers we have growing around the lodge.
