Greetings valley dwellers! Turnip here, with another installment of what's what high on LeConte. Our new guy, Tate, showed up just a little while ago and he is eager to learn all the ins and outs of the lodge. We had a lost and found fashion show curtesy of Mr. Justin Cave. He is pictured here wearing a beautiful pink rain hat and "too small for you" sleep pants, which I hear is all the rage in Paris right now. No sign of yesterday's bear yet but we are keeping our eyes peeled and noses ready for any bear smells. The rain finally arrived yesterday afternoon with a quick downpour! The forecast is still calling for more rain so remember, rain gear. Our current mountain temperature is a misty 63 with last nights low reaching 55. Justin, looking fashionable as ever. He's a real "hoot" 😀
Hello down there! Today while in camp, Logan and Peanut spotted a 200 lb Ursus americanus (also known as a black bear) in camp up around cabin 7 and 8. Unfortunately, we were unable to take a photo since it scurried off into the woods at pretty good pace. This has been the first bear sighting in a month or so. Just remember that as you are hiking that you are entering their country and take precaution to make some noise as you rounding turns or are in dense undergrowth. Do not approach or feed the bears but respect them as animals. Also, if you are guests with us don't forget to put your food and other odorous materials into the metals bin located in the office before heading to bed for the night.
The current weather on top of the mountain is 63.2F with light rain. The low last night was 55F with trace amounts of rain. Logan is back up the mountain with a clean shaven face ready for some more D&D and David (traveling preacher) left his last Saturday with us for CO. I just finished my first batch of cookies and am just enjoying a good book with a beautiful display of wildflowers outback the kitchen. Enjoy the day! -Justin |
