Good Morning, Sometimes words can not express the beauty of Mt LeConte. We may get a lot of rainy days but when the sunset is as wonderful as this, it makes up for all that. Neither crew nor guests were able to stay indoors on such a perfect evening. With all the porches full and cameras ready, all of camp fell silent as the clouds parted to reveal a sky full of pink, purple and red. We couldn't be happier. Yesterdays rain fall totaled in at 0.55 inches, clearing up as the evening continued. Temperatures are staying consistent with a high of 64 and low of 52. As the sun slowly peaks over the mountain this morning we can see that we are currently completed hidden in the clouds. Seems most of camp decided to sleep in this morning as camp is quiet and still. Chances of more scattered showers today so be sure to hike with that rain gear. -Adventure is out there.

Good Afternoon All, It looks like its gonna be another rainy day here in the park. Doesn't seem to be any heavy storms just small scattered showers all day. Yesterday we received 0.60 inches of rain and its gonna be about the same today. A slight breeze in the air keeping us cooled off as it is currently 56 degrees. As the llamas are on approached we can tell they are happy to be out of the hot temperatures of the valley below. Friendly reminder that it may be nice and cold at the lodge but expect much higher temperatures at the start of all the trails leading to the summit so bring plenty of water. Last nights low was 50 degrees so not much variance from day to night. Be sure to bring that rain gear if you plan on hitting the trails today and if you plan on staying the night pack a few extra layers. View from 441 near Cherokee -Adventure is out there.
(35.654261, -83.436827) Good morning,
We’re sitting in clouds this morning, the sun has been making the white fog bright blinding us as we finish cleaning camp. Yesterday, we had a high temp of 64 degrees dropping down to the lower 50s as the sun went down. The strong breeze made our overnight temp a chilly 53 degrees and we received another inch of rain. Today, as we continue to sit in the clouds, we are expecting more rain and cooler temps. Don’t forget those rain layers! Goodnight Afternoon, We had a beautifully sunny day yesterday (high of 69) with intermittent clouds. Overnight we didn’t receive any rain, a nice change, and our low hit a chilly 52 degrees. Currently, we are sitting in the sun with rain hitting us hard at times. Rain has been falling on the skylights all morning creating a calming pitter patter that is expected to last most of the day. Below, one of our lovely squirrels was caught in action by our own Jacob Line. While he looks cute in the picture, not five minutes later he was caught stealing an ash tray from cabin 9. This season, more so than others, the squirrels have been coming at us with all they have. Stealing, medication bottles, phones and headlamps alike, they are a force to be reckoned with. Just a friendly reminder, please DO NOT feed the squirrels (or any other animals) while visiting the lodge. Keep your personal belongings in your pocket or in your pack tucked away or they will find it! Have a fantastic Wednesday, you’re halfway through the week! -Adventure is out there.
(35.654261, -83.436827) Good Morning, We’re rolling back and forth along this see-saw when it comes to the weather. In and out of the clouds, the occasional rain shower alternating with hot blasts from the sun. Expect such conditions to persist throughout the week. Yesterday’s high temp came in at 68 degrees, with our low hitting 53. It’s currently 57 and cloudy. The intermittent showers accounted for 0.3” of total rainfall. Wildflower enthusiasts tend to ask about certain blooming rarities along the trails this time of year. The Grass of Parnassus are just now starting to bloom, but won’t put on their famous display for a good week or two. The Purple Gentian are also revving up, and a handful of Mountain Krigia show their heads when the sun is out. It’s of course still very stunning here at the lodge.
Still plenty of summer left to come to the Smokies and Mt. LeConte. Have a great day! The Lodge should have the equipment to post packed up later today so the manager will try to post this evening or tomorrow and update the rain totals. Saturday's 24 hour high was 63 and low was 50. Rain was .95 inches. Sunday's high was 66 and low was 52 with no rain.
Scattered afternoon showers are predicted throughout the week and there could be some pockets of heavy rain, so don't forget to pack some rain gear if you plan on hiking this week. LLama's should pack again in Wednesday. The lodge has been having problems posting over the last few days but hopefully they will be up and running again on Monday if all goes well. The high yesterday was 58 and low 52 with 3.12 inches of rain. The Lodge will update the rain fall totals on Monday.
Guests have been mentioning that with all of the rain that the trails are very muddy with puddling in some areas and also some erosion in spots. More rain is predicted over the weekend but should be more along the line of the normal summer pattern of scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms, so don't forget to pack some rain gear and your personal items in dry bags. Just a reminder that Rainbow Falls trail is closed Monday through Thursday for the second year of a two year trail restoration project through the Trails Forever Program. The parking lot is open to allow hikers to use the Trillium Gap connector trail and Old Sugarlands Trail. As of now Bullhead trail is still closed. Llamas should be packing Sunday, Wednesday and Friday next week but trips are subject to change. Good Afternoon,
Its been another rainy day up top, nonstop in fact. We are loving it though! The crew even got together for a rainy day picture yesterday. While riding out the rain the past couple of days, we anticipate more tomorrow as well as over the weekend. Yesterday, we received over 2 inches of rain and it’s hasn’t let up yet today. Our high yesterday was a cool 56 degrees and overnight low was 51. Put your rain gear on and make your way Ron the top!! |
