I love the time in the morning when everything has that morning glow. It is a beautiful morning up top. The high yesterday was 67 with a low of 48. I hiked out to Myrtle Point and could see hints of fall color on the trees. It is fast approaching. The crew is already starting to speculate when the first snow will fall on the mountain.
The weather held off and the wedding was beautiful. Two crew members from the 2005 became husband and wife. I wanted to post a photo of them but I seem to be having technical difficulties with a new flash card for my camera. So I will leave you with a photo of sunrise. Congratulations Kat and Josh Holsworth. Your LeConte family is so happy for you.
Cloudy skies are hanging around. I hope the wind pushes the rainy weather out of here. We have a wedding happening on the mountain today. Two old crew members are heading back up the mountain to say their vows. I will post pictures in the morning. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather. Yesterdays weather was great. The high was 68 with a low of 51. Great colors for sunset last night. It was a cool 44 with a high of 67. Weather doesn't get any better then this. It has been beautiful the last few days. If you have a little extra time, hike up and see us.
The skies are incredible this morning. We have great views. Fall is in the air. It was an amazing day yesterday with a high of 65 and low of 41. Not a cloud in the sky today. We can see the valley perfectly. I tell people all the time that September is my favorite month on the mountain. It is proving me right so far.
The storms passed and the day was marvelous. The high yesterday was 64. The rain helped cool us down to 41 last night. The cool nights are upon us. If you are hiking up to spend the night, don't forget to bring some warm layers. It is chilly at night. It is starting out to be a gorgeous day up top for today.
LeConte received almost 2.5" of rain yesterday. I was beginning to wonder if I was going to wake up in my cabin down in Gatlinburg. The whole area surrounding Sevier county got pounded with storms. I always tell people it is hard to describe that feeling when you are sitting at 6500' and a storm is right on top of you. Your head is in the middle of those heavy cracks of thunder. It made me jump a time or two yesterday. The mountain is socked in this morning. I am not sure what is in store for us today. I guess we will take what we get and enjoy it.
Wet! This is the best word to describe today. Lots of rain in the forecast and it has been raining all morning. The high yesterday was 65 with a low of 53. We received .07" of rain during the afternoon. Looks like today is the day for the wet weather. Put on your hiking boots and gaitors and come on up to see us. Don't forget your rain jacket. You may want that.
It was a warm day yesterday. The high was 68 with a low of 50. Nice day without rain. It looks like the rain may be moving in for the weekend.
Road Updates: The Cherokee Orchard road which leads to the Rainbow Falls and Bullhead trailhead should be open this evening around 8 pm. I will post if there are any changes. The cool nights are bringing out the color in the Mountain Ash berries. This year is very unusual. The mountain ash tree produces red berries every 4 to 5 years. We had a beautiful show last year. Some how, the trees decided to bless us with another beautiful show this year. The trees are booming with berries. The nights are cooler. The low last night was 42 with a high yesterday of 60. We received .75" of rain yesterday. Today is starting out a nice day on the mountain.
