Good morning and I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to their week! We are in one of those weird "in between two levels of clouds" kind of places today. There are some very high clouds creating a blanket over the whole area and then there are small groupings of clouds below us splattering the valley. It is also kind of gusty today. We had a nice day yesterday, even though it was overcast most of the day. It only reached 62 making it a perfect day for some hiking. The clouds, however, cleared off just too late for sunset, but it did give everyone a view of the city and all its lights. The temperature dropped down to 50 last night. Fall is here!
This is a photo I took the other night after I had already posted to the blog but I wanted to share it with you. The cloud inversion made for a beautiful sunset! As I stepped outside this morning, I heard the quiet fall of small raindrops. I was hoping for a beautiful start to the weekend but the looming clouds left me with little chance of that, at the time. However, it has been a complete turn around! It is a beautiful day here now! The sun is out and the clouds are dissipating. It is not, however, necessarily warm. The high yesterday was only in the lower 50s with the temperature dropping to 40 last night. This is great hiking weather though! I hope everyone can get out and enjoy some sunshine and nice weather this weekend!
Good afternoon! Welcome back to the mountain, and its happenings. It's very nice to be back atop for me. It seems like I was away for a very long time. The weather is much cooler than when I left last week and compared to temperatures down in town. I returned yesterday to tempertures in the lower 50s. It actually only reached 53. Then, overnight it dropped down to the lower 40s. Currently, it's only 51 degrees. Mitch has been training as the assistant llama wrangler. Today was one of his first trips up the mountain solo. Look for him on some days filling in and hiking up Trillium Gap trail.
As I was walking around camp trying to figure out what to blog about, the deer jumped out in front of me. I took that as a sign. So, you get another deer photo. I like the sun beaming down through the trees in this shot. It is a fuzzy, feel good, kind of morning up top. I am getting ready to hike down the mountain today. I am exchanging rock under for my feet for sand between my toes. My group of girlfriends are meeting at the beach for a few days. I am ready for ocean time. Meredith is off the mountain as well. She will be back on Thursday to share some more pictures with you. We will make sure you get a morning update via Christi at our reservations office. I will be back next week with a good dose of sand and surf. That should carry me through the c
The fawns are growing up so quickly. The crew has had a lot of fun this summer watching the little ones run and jump all over camp. I am surprised someone hasn't named them yet. Their spots are starting to fade and they are getting bigger. It won't be long before the colder days move them along. The low was 37 again last night. I have been telling people, make sure to bring layers when you come up for the night. The days are perfect, but the nights cool down quickly.
Time to pull out the wool socks and fleece jackets. It dropped down to 37 degrees last night. No wonder I had my heater on high. Brrrr!! Today is looking amazing out there. It is going to be fabulous day on Mt. LeConte. Now, get on your hiking boots and come see us.
Ahhh, an actual sunrise. It is great to start your morning with a nice sunrise on Mt. LeConte. We have missed it the past few days. It sounds as though this weekend is going to be a keeper. Sun and warmer temperatures moving in. The high yesterday was only 50. I am not quit ready for winter.
The sun is finally trying to make an appearance. It rained a little while last night, leaving the ground nice and damp this morning. Hopefully, the sun is coming out to dry us out. The high yesterday was 51 with a low of 43.
The clouds lifted for a few minutes and we could see below us. Well, sort of. It was a breathtaking view of English Mountain. The clouds blew in and out all day. The high was 55 with a low of 45. We didn't get much more rain. The ground soaked up what ever did come down. Who knows what today will bring. We have been socked in for a while and while I am typing, I notice a patch of blue sky. Maybe we will a see a little sunshine today.
After 4.8" of rain in 24 hours, we are still up here. As you can see by the water line on the building, we are a little water logged. We have had no reports of any issues with any trails. I even saw a little patch of sunshine down below us. It sounds as though the worst is behind us and we survived just fine.
