The crew had a special treat this morning. Our good friend Colleen Cruz, from Cruz Farm Dairy, hiked up home made ice cream, milk, cream, and butter for us. We talked her into making us home made biscuits with the buttermilk she brought us. It is always a treat to have someone else cook for while on the mountain. Oh yeah, before I forget, the biscuits we serve the guests are made from scratch every morning. Yummy!!! The rain has moved in and making itself at home. Looks like we are going to be wet for a few days. If you are hiking up today, I would recommend using Alum Cave trail. That trail is usually your safest bet for creek crossings when there is a lot of water coming off the mountain. So far, it is just rain. No winds or lightening. Be careful and have a safe hike. It is a spectacular day on the mountain. There is a picnic table with your name on it. Plenty of time to hit the trail and hike up to check out the views and enjoy the cool breeze. Labor Day weekend is starting out to be top notch!!
A lone cone flower hanging on. Summer is coming to an end. Labor day weekend is upon us and brings cooler weather with it. Fall is definitely in the air up top. The highs are still in the low 60's and the lows are in the mid 40's to high 50's. I hope everyone has a great weekend. We are anticipating a lot of hikers visiting the top this weekend.
While it may be a sad year for the blackberries, the mountain ash is going crazy. The berries are painting the mountain bright red. This should give the bears some berries to munch on. Someone asked yesterday what could be done about the lack of food for the bear population. There is nothing that can, or should be done. This is how nature works. Some years are good and some are bad. The minute humans step in and start trying to "help" is the time we do more harm then good. The bears will learn to depend on us for food instead of following their natural instincts and seeking the food that is the correct diet for their wellbeing.
