Good morning and happy Friday!

We are ending the work week on a beautiful note. Sunny skies are expected throughout the day today as we welcome hundreds of day hikers to the lodge. But again, remember those warm layers. Its chilly up here! Yesterday we got to a warm 55 degrees while overnight we dropped down to 34. Crew and guests alike are enjoying the change from warm temperatures down below and are loving the feel of fall. We got our first pumpkins up on the llamas Wednesday and will be receiving more in the coming weeks. Only twelve days until Halloween! We can’t wait to see what the crew come up with for their costumes and pumpkin carvings this year!

Good morning all,

Clear skies are in view this morning as we look down on the surrounding towns. Crew have loved the change of pace as we see the sun shining down on us and chilly air causes one to wake up quickly as light winds hit your face. While currently at 35 degrees, we did get down to 32 overnight allowing for leftover water in llama troughs to freeze on the surface. With a busy day behind us, we reached a high of 50. Finally enjoying the temperatures we expect in October. No rain in sight for the next 24 hours but we will stay in the colder temperatures. Heads up for next weeks llama schedule, they will be coming up on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Have a great Thursday!

Happy Wednesday,

Sitting above the clouds this morning a beautiful sunrise showed its colors at around 7:45. We are so happy to finally see the sun after three days of clouds and rain. Yesterday, we reached a high of 59 and overnight low of 44 although the temperature dropped as the morning continued and now we are at a chilly 36 degrees. Hopefully the sun will help us out, refreshing crew and giving us a little warm up. Over the past 24 hours, we have collected .57 inches of rain and aren’t expecting any for the rest of the day. Watch out though, this weekend we are expecting temperatures to drop to the lower 30s and could possibly experience some precipitation as well! Our Snow pool for this season has been posted on the side of our fridge as crew continue to place bets on when our first snow will be. Tensions are tight at the moment. If we do have snow this weekend before 12:00pm Saturday then Jacob will win the pool; if snow falls after 12:00pm Kemp will win….. That is, if we do get the snow. We’ll have to wait and see!! Over the next 24 hours, while we aren’t expecting rain, it will be chilly on the mountain. Make sure you have those layers with you!

Good Morning,

The sun is up but so are the clouds up here on LeConte. With a chilly 53 degrees currently, we aren’t expecting much of a warm up today. As more rain moves in, we are expected to be in the clouds all day. A good day to enjoy a hot beverage by the warm fire. Yesterdays high got to 58 degrees and overnight low was 46. While not that cold, a chilly rain fell at 9:00 pm on camp adding .27 inches to our yearly rain count.

A special thank you to our 9th llama Kemp for making a day run (left the lodge at 11:25am and made it to the trailhead at 11:55am and got back into camp in 1 hour and 28 minutes) with Chick-fil-A and Krispy Kreme in hand surprising crew and management. Thank you Kemp!!!

Good morning!

While currently at 48 degrees, we are expecting a warm up throughout the day and possibly some scattered showers. Winds are picking up again bringing crisp air into the hot kitchen. Yesterday we reached a nice high of 57 while our overnight low was a comfortable 43 with .3 inches of rain added to our yearly total. Our llamas and new wrangler, Dan the Llama Man, will be up today. We will introduce him in a post soon!! Have a great start to your week.

Good Afternoon,

Things are a little drafty up here as wind speeds of 20mph hit the mountains. Leaving us at a comfortable 45 degrees when the wind is still but very chilly when the wind blows. Yesterday, we hit a high of 53 while our overnight low got down to 32 and .1 inches of rain fell this morning around 5:00. Definitely bring those heavier layers when you travel up to LeConte as it is chilly during the day and COLD at night. While we are covered in clouds currently, little precipitation is expected throughout the afternoon hours although we have had some scattered showers throughout the day today. This time of year, it is important to bring rain gear as well as layers when coming up the mountain. The weather up here can change quickly!

Happy Saturday!

Camp is buzzing with day hikers as we continue this beautiful day up top. While things are warming up (currently 54 degrees) it is still chilly in the shadows. Yesterday, we hit a high of 52 and overnight, we got down to a cold 32 degrees. Not as cold as the day before but still enough to huddle by the heaters and drink hot beverages to warm the core. Throughout the day, we should be staying in the sun and overnight temps should be down in the upper 30s again. Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!!

Good Morning,

What a beautiful day it is here at the lodge. When sitting at 6593 feet, sometimes you get to be above the clouds. Sunrise this morning spread an array of colors over the tops of the clouds making it look like an ocean of orange and red. What a spectacular place to be. Even though temperatures dropped to a crazy 29.8 degrees last night, crew and guests stayed warm in the comfort of their cabins. Some crew members even showed up to work this morning in shorts! We are currently at 33 degrees and hoping to start warming up soon. We are expecting tonight to be another cold night so be sure to hike up with plenty of warm layers. No rain on the forecast for today and after receiving 3.8 inches over the past 24 hours we are very happy about that.

Good Morning all,

As of 6:00 AM we received 2.2 inches of rain and continue to get more as the day carries on. All of camp seems to be one giant puddle today and stairways look like raging waterfalls. Wind speeds are mild compared to what was expected, currently experiencing gusts of 20-30 mph winds. Guests and crew are spending the day observing the storm pass by from the warm comfort of the cabins. For those planning a hike up be sure to pack that rain gear and a warm change of clothes. Temperatures are staying consistent with an overall low last night of 52 degrees and an expected high today to be in the upper 50s. Expect trail conditions today to be wet/slick.

Good Afternoon All,

Hurricane Michael is bringing some heavy winds our way. Completely surrounded in the clouds and howling winds pushing the trees around and making the cabins creak certainly brings an eerie feeling into camp. Today is a perfect day for sipping hot coffee from the warm sanctuary of the dining hall. We are expecting wind speeds to increase as the evening continues and forecasts call for more rain throughout today and into tomorrow. For those planning a hike up be sure to bring that rain gear and expect wet/slippery trail conditions. We are currently at 58 degrees. Last nights low was 48 degrees.
