It was a wildflower kind of morning...
Hello and good morning! I hope that everyone has made it to mid-week in good spirits! Yesterday's weather was beautiful and hot, with a high of 74 and the overnight low falling to 50. Today the weather can't quite figure out what to do, blue skies changing to clouds, then back again. Currently, it's 63 degrees and there is a good chance of showers later this afternoon.

Awesome photos as usual! Can someone tell me if the valley lights can be seen on a clear night from the lodge or from a part of one of the trails up to the top? Thanks! Hope you all have a sunny summer day!

the valley can be seen from the lodge porch and from the back of the dining room porch. gatlinburg can be seen in all its splendor (?) from the rainbow falls trail up near the top.

On a clear night you can see the valley lights very well form the lodge's porches. We happened to be there last Oct. on a very clear night and a full moon and it was beautiful looking down at the lights in town.

The view of the valley from the Lodge at night is another favorite aspect of being up there for me. I am transformed to a different mental state. Transformation is a process, and as life happens there are tons of ups and downs. Hiking up to Leconte Lodge is a transformation of a unique nature as all know who have experienced it and it's a journey {remember that it is the journey that is the destination} of discovery if you pay attention to your surroundings as you gain altitude. There are moments in valleys and moments on mountaintops; I prefer those from on high. My cabin of choice is No. 9 at the end of that upper row and I've sat on its doorsteps many times at night, at all hours, gazing down on the lights in the valley far below feeling elated to be up there. Marvelous !!! G'day.

Thanks ya'll for the valley lights info. I hope to have clear, crisp autumn weather when we are there in October. I'll check the moon phase in hopes of it being a full moon as well. It would definately be a treat to be on top of Leconte on a clear, full moon night! That would make my trip! Those of you that have been up there on such a night were truly fortunate!
