_Morning,

It was a brisk (some might even say wintry!) day yesterday. The high was only 36 degrees. The low was 20 degrees after yesterday's cool start to the day. It was 26 degrees and clear at 7am observation. The mountain received no new precipitation yesterday. The trails are still quite wet after Tuesday's heavy rainfall. Portions up top will be icy after these low temperatures. Be prepared!

I had a nice hike out the Boulevard trail yesterday. The trail is in pretty good shape. There are still 3 or 4 tricky blowdowns, but they are passable. It was unusual seeing no snow atop LeConte, then hitting the Boulevard and finding a pleasant dusting. I am a very amateur meteorologist, so I have no explanation for this, but it was a wonderful surprise. A dash of winter to sate my appetite. I also read this great article on cabin life. I paid them off not to include LeConte so I can still have some semblance of solitude.

Nice pictures. I'll be up there weekend after next, and will spend one night up on the mountain you call home for a night. Look forward to meeting you!

Love to look at the pic's you post daily as I sit at my desk and dream. The one pic looks like maybe the mist or the heavy dew froze and fell...IDK. Have a great day!

Hello JP! Morning Meteorologist at WATE 6, Knoxville, here. We all love reading your blog, and have hiked up during the warmer months a few times.

Yesterday, there were very small snow bands that moved through the area. So, one just moved over the Boulevard, but unfortunately ...not the Lodge. Hey, you may get some snow Wednesday of next week! It all depends on the track of this low that is going to move through. Right now, the weather models are taking it on two different tracks, so we're hoping for the colder one for you. We'll keep you posted. We know you want snow, and we all do as well!

Keep up the great posts!

JP, is it realistic to day hike Boulevard as is if I'm able to do Rainbow RT in 6.5 hrs on snow pack?

JP

Sheldon,
Yes, there are 2 or 3 sketchy blowdowns. Be careful there and you should be fine. Just be sure to pack all the essentials, lots of food and water. And a headlamp, just in case.

JP, you said you Thru-hiked. What was your trail name, when did you hike it and did you keep a trail journal online?

JP

Tony,
I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2010. I did not keep a trail journal.
