Good Morning!
Yesterday was an unusual day—I didn’t see any day hikers—not even hiker tracks! There is still about four inches of snow around the lodge. It didn’t get warm enough yesterday to melt much. The current temperature is 25 degrees—about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday—so we’ll have to wait and see what happens today. More high winds and snow are predicted. Highway 441 to Newfound Gap is still closed. If you should decide to venture out, I would strongly recommend using your traction devices! HAPPY TRAILS!! WILDCAT/Bert

Thanks for your helpful daily post! I've been reading them for the past couple days to see what the snow looks like and helpful when planning to hike LeConte!

Hi Wildcat! It was so nice meeting you last month. I wanted to reach out and thank you for being so cordial and welcoming! I truly enjoyed my brief visit to the lodge. But, more so, I enjoyed meeting such an enthusiastic hiking legend! I mean, triple crown?!?! I want to be you when I grow up! Haha! Please keep that wonderful, welcoming smile and telling such engaging stories. Thank you for showing me the best spot with the best view and sharing your little piece of heaven for even a few short minutes. Your posts are so much fun. Keep sharing and thank you for taking care of such an iconic place in the beautiful Smokies!

My wife and I are training for a trek in Europe named the Tour du Mont Blanc and plan on getting in quite a few hikes in the GSMNP in coming months while also working at a local gym. Several years ago we occasionally made day hikes up and back during the winter and brought the LeConte winter caretaker a few goodies like fruit, nuts and the like depending on what he said he’d most like to have.
