Sunset colors in between storms last evening.
Good (almost) afternoon from a slightly chilly mountain top! Yesterday stayed cool for the most part with the high only reaching 59 and the low down to 40. We had thunder rolling through camp all day and heavy showers through the late afternoon and into the evening, leaving us with .62" of rain. Even as we were ringing the bell for dinner, Leconte Falls (the steps in front of the dinning room) was flowing freely from a sudden storm. But low and behold, as the last cookie was finished and the dishes where done, one of the most unique and beautiful sunsets broke through the clouds and set the sky on fire...I love the way the mountain says goodnight.

dan: Good luck with getting hired. I have as many and probably more qualifications than needed to be a crew member; 4 B.S. degrees, military service, EMT and other such training, been all over the world, just too many attributes to list here and I don't want to come across as bragging, just stating facts. I love staying at the Lodge tremendously and have many times in just 11 years and will more in the future. I have submitted the electronic applications three or four times with no response and sent in a hard-copy resume, etc. Never a reply. No big deal and no regrets, but I and others I think, do wonder just how the crew selection is done, etc. I hope no one thinks I'm complaining - I am not. I am a big ambassador for the Lodge actually. Well, perhaps an old fart like me just isn't their type. So be it. I will continue to support it and visit it. Good luck in your efforts if you seek to do so. G'day

I'm with you, Dan. I would do anything for just one season up there; I think I could die happy then.
And yes, great photograph. Just a beautiful picture.....

Ron and Dan...you should go for it. My daughter crewed up there one season and loved it.

I'm with you Dan and Ron, I would retire this year if I could get on crew next year, has anyone heard about the fireflies at Elkmont this year, we'll be down this weekend, doing Leconte in October this year can't wait !!!!

Doug Y, I can completely understand your frustration with how this has been handled. Or rather not handled. A reply, even a negative one, is appropriate. Better luck in the future, if you are still interested in being a crew member.

Franklin: My interest in and desire for being a crew member at the Lodge has waned somewhat, I know that I would be an asset to the crew, but I believe I will be content with remaining the occasional guest. I plan to return there for a couple of nights in September, then for three in November the week before they close for the winter. That will be satisfying. Yes, even though 'they' may be busy, a short reply would have been nice. I was wondering about the amounts of "traffic" on the other trails now that work is being conducted on the Alum trail; just curious. And bear activity. I sort of expect to read more about that, particularly on the Trillium trail, my favorite. G'day

Doug y, I would also like to be on crew some year, maybe I'll apply and see what happens ,who knows!!!!

Doug, the courtesty of a reply, even if it is a rejection, would have been in order. I am sorry you didn't get one. And regarding bears on the trails, & at the Lodge, it appears the Lodge doesn't like to talk about this very much. I am guessing the Lodge worries that bear talk will discourage, or scare away, potential lodgers.
