Lights Are On

9/28/2012

It is a cold, misty morning at the lodge. The dining room is filled with the lights of the oil lamps. It is a cozy setting for visiting with friends and family. I am guessing the games are going to be a popular attraction in the office. Today is a perfect day for a game of Risk by oil lamp light. The crew members, that are off this afternoon, are discussing the length of their up and coming naps. It is a great day to wrap up in a fuzzy blanket and catch up on some reading. Chris left this morning, with Walt in tow, heading to Mammoth Cave National Park. They are going to participate in the wild cave tour. Six hours of caving?? Not my idea of a fun day off, but Chris was super excited. I just hope he doesn't get stuck. At least Walt will be there to help get him out.

Current weather is cool and cloudy. The high yesterday was 62 with a low of 47. The leaves are peaking on the mountain. It is a beautiful display of fur trees and gold leaves.

I love the days you can snuggle with a blanket and catch up with a good book! It would be even better to be in my favorite place.
Blessings to all!

What day is the last day of the lodge season this year? My wife and I were wondering recently.

Caving sounds fun to me, just watch out for the bats.
Devin. I just looked up the last night and its Nov. 20th.
I have some pictures that turned out real neat with my son making a house of cards by latern when we took our hike up there last August. Make for some realy cool looking pics.

My husband and our daughter did the wild cave tour several years ago. I have never seen those two more "whipped" than when they came off the bus at the end of their day! It's gonna be a whole different experience than hiking LeConte!

There is something so soothing about lantern light.

So beautiful & so sad to miss it. Husband & I from Massachusetts just found out about LeConte Lodge and hoped to stay. Coming to NC next week. Will have to wait and book then for next year.

Been on the wild cave tour. It's AWESOME, but they'll definitely be feeling every muscle group the day after. It is a great time though
