Yesterday was odd. We were expecting storms all day but nothing happened until 4:00pm, just after all of the guests arrived!
Then we ended up with .62” of rain.

It's been nice with 62/44 temps and most of the crew are running around in shorts and sandals.

A shot of the elusive, and adorable, Golden-Crowned Kinglet that's been checking out camp.
The past few days we've been spotting interesting animals and plants. Chickadees have taken up residence just outside of camp. Mama deer and teenager wander through camp bumping into people, salamanders scurry along after dark, snails covering every surface in the dawn and dusk.

We just saw our first pseudo scorpion. How bizarre.

Let us know what you spot during your time at LeConte!

Interesting looking bird. In all of my years of hiking and camping in the Smokies my knowledge of the trails and such has become extensive. However, during those years I neglected to learn more about the flora and fauna in the Park, so, these days I am slowly gaining a better and more thorough knowledge of the wildlife there as well as plants and such. I've bought just about every book offered in the gift shop at the visitor center ! One creature I want to find for myself is the Eastern Hellbender. They're there; I just have to look for them. I really appreciate it when photos are posted here of different species such as the bird today. Thanks.

Doug, I remember my father's saying several years before he died at 88 yrs old, that he wished he had taken more time when he was hiking in the Smokies to pause and to observe the flora and fauna rather than always being so focused on the goal of the hike. When he led my sister and me on the trails, although we often wanted to slow down and look, he urged us to keep going and do it later. I agree when the goal is the only interest much beauty and interest is missed.

Thanks to the Lodge staff for the pictures and descriptions!
