Springtime on the mountain means you never know what you are going to get. We awoke this morning to 4" of fresh powder on the ground. The high yesterday was 33º with a low of 13º. Thank goodness we finished our airlift before this blanket of snow covered the mountain. The helicopter delivered the last of the t-shirts and propane tanks. We are ready for action.
If you are hiking up today, make sure you have plenty of layers to keep warm when you stop for rest breaks. You also want to make sure you drink plenty of water and carry snacks with you. The snow can make a hike last a little longer than usual, so make sure you are prepared. At the time of this posting, Hwy 441 is closed. The trails that are open, leading to the lodge, are Rainbow Falls Trail and Bullhead Trail. We heard from guests yesterday advising that you will want some sort of traction device to attempt these trails. Remember, take it slow and be careful. We will have hot chocolate ready for you when you reach the lodge.

I have pictures of the Lodge snowed in, from Easter weekend 2007 (April 6th & 7th). I'd like to share. How do I do that?

David Wallace, you will need to create a link and put it in the website spot just above comment section. It will then put an arrow next to your name to open the link externally. ( at least I think that is correct)

Allyson, now that my oldestson can drive, he said "I suppose I can go to Leconte when I want to now huh?" His gear stays on ready at all times. I would be in that cabin this weekend if not for having to finish out the month at the ole dealership. HAPPY TRAILS

More snow showers this afternoon/evening with another inch or two. Near zero Wednesday morning, then cold all day. Rain Friday and Saturday, then, much warmer at the lodge next week. This looks like the last snow...

Last year at this time, as I was gearing up for an early April hike up the mountain, snowy images like the one featured today would have filled me with excitement – not so much a year later. I think I've seen enough snow this winter to last me for the next 10 years. Yet, winter is still hanging on, and if it was within my power, I'd kick it into oblivion.
