A Little Warm Weather Goes A Long Way

4/6/2010

It is amazing how a week of warm weather can change the mountain. The snow is melting and our daily routines are returning to normal. We are flying one more load up the mountain, and hopefully that will last until the llamas can make it up. I am ready to see those cute, stinky llamas. The high yesterday was 64. It turned out to be another amazing day on top of Mt. LeConte. I am not sure where the rain is that the weather forecasters keep calling for. It is not making its way up here. I will keep you posted on any trail updates. I am still hearing that Boulevard has a couple of tricky sections. You will still want ice crampons if you hike this trail. The north faces of the mountain are not melting as fast. I hope everyone is enjoying spring. Chris and I will be hiking down tomorrow night for some much needed r&r. I am excited to see what flowers are blooming on the other trails.

Excited about our 3rd trip up to Leconte tommorrow. It's always great Father/Son time. We're hiking the Boulevard trail this trip. Hope weather holds and we can make it up without too much trouble. I've heard there are possible thunderstorms on Thursday for our hike down......whoopee! Look forward to seeing everyone at the top tomorrow!

Wayne and Matt, I was just told today by the trail crew that Boulevard is still very bad. There are still a few places with deep snow and the section around the cliff is extremely dangerous. You will want to consider another route. The trail crew asked me to pass on the information so people would not hike in or out on that trail. See you up top. Happy Hiking
