Good Afternoon,

We would like to shine the spotlight on Andy, one of our llama friends. Andy is the second largest llama hiking up the mountain, weighing in at 364lbs. He has been hiking up supplies to LeConte Lodge for seven years now! But this day is a special one for Andy as he usually is the caboose of the llama train, today he was the lead llama for the first time! And what a wonderful job he did (he looks so proud and happy)! So a big round of applause for Andy everybody!

Todays weather has been nothing sort of perfect. Temperatures through the night reached as low as 22 degrees but things are warming up fast in the sunlight as we are currently in the mid 40s. Clear skies today, no chance of rain and no high winds are adding up to make this a wonderful day to be outside!

Greetings all,

Currently we are in high 20s as far as temperature goes. No chance of snow or rain for today so trails should be clear of any snow and ice but caution is recommended as the temperature continues to drop.

We have been getting all sorts of different weather this week. First was rain then came snow followed by sunshine, all spread out over three days. Today seems to be a perfect day to watch the dense fog get blown around by chilling winds from the comfort of the warm dining hall. So come sit in the clouds with us today and enjoy a cup of hot coffee or hot chocolate  by the heaters.

Good Afternoon,

"Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt." -John Muir

We hope that your path leads you to LeConte Lodge, especially on such a beautiful day like today. Currently temperatures are in the low 50s and still climbing! With no chance of rain today and not a cloud in sight the lodge is filling up with guests and day hikers fast. All around camp you can hear song birds singing in the distance at the wonderful weather (or that just might be Heather, our cook).

Good Afternoon,

Temperatures last night dropped into the single digits for us here at the summit but todays clear skies and warm sunlight are making quick work of melting the inch of snow we received. We are expecting the high for today to be in the low 40s with no chance of snow or rain.

After a few days of rough weather, crew and guests are excited to be out and about the lodge today. Conditions are perfect for taking in the views at cliff tops or myrtle point today but its never a bad idea to kick back and relax on one of the porches and watch the sunlight melt away the snow. You can almost hear the sigh of relief from the trees as they lose pound after pound of snow from their branches.

Highway 441 has been opened as of late this morning which allows access to Alum Cave trailhead and Boulevard trailhead.

US 441 (Newfound Gap Road) is temporarily closed due to ice and snow. The trail rehabilitation work on Rainbow Falls is expected to begin on schedule today. This leaves guests with reservations at the lodge access to Trillium Gap Trail (6.7 miles) via the Roaring Fork for the time being. Understand that parking at this popular trailhead can be limited at times, and hikers may need to park further down the road which will lengthen the hike slightly.

Use caution while driving and hiking in these conditions, and pack the appropriate gear for hiking in wind, snow, and rain until the weather clears. Beginning tomorrow afternoon, a return of more seasonably appropriate weather is expected becoming very warm by Wednesday.

Old man winter has a tight grip on Mount LeConte and it doesn't seem like he wants to let go. The mountain is quiet and still today, with temperatures staying in the high teens and snow piling up not even nature is making a sound. Any activity going on here at the summit today seems to be coming from around the heaters and with good reason.

Greetings,

Its a nasty rainy day up here with temps currently in the 40s and predicted to drop to the 20s as the day continues and into the night. Sideways rain and strong winds are leaving us wet to the bone. If you are coming up today please remember to layer up and wear protective rain gear. As the temperature drops, we could see this rain turn into snow so if you are planning to visit us tomorrow, we strongly suggest traction as a precaution for your hike.

Good Morning,

Weather update as of 9:00 AM, currently at 43 degrees with high wind speeds (60-65mph). Low visibility with a dense cloud coverage moving in. Expecting heavy rain in the latter part of the evening and through the night. For those hiking up today or tomorrow be safe and bring those warm clothes and rain gear.

With some wonderful luck we have received a break in the bad weather just in time for our llama friends to arrive at the lodge to drop off some fresh supplies for guests and crew. The llamas were especially excited to be on top of the mountain today so they could show off their new haircuts! Looking stylish as ever the llamas happily ate their treats, rested and then headed home for the weekend.

Happy Friday,

We are having another beautiful day here at the lodge with warm air and clear skies. Temperatures are expected to stay above the low 40s as the sun sets and into tomorrow.

Why is Emily awesome?

We would like to highlight another one of the wonderful crew members here at the lodge for the 2018 season, Emily Buie. Emily has her Masters Degree in Non-profit Management which has led her all around the globe to places such as London, West Africa, Israel and Geneva. Her accomplishments don't stop there as she has experience working with Emergency Response teams and wild land firefighting as they performed conservation efforts at the state and national park levels.

This is Emily's first season with LeConte Lodge and she is fully embracing the lifestyle change. In her downtime, Emily enjoys taking day hikes on the many trails offered to explore here in the backcountry as well as hanging out with her llama friends (Buck is her favorite).

If you get the chance to make it to the top, make sure to talk to Emily!

Good Afternoon,

Today has been such an irresistibly beautiful day outside with clear blue skies and warm breezes. Crew immediately took time to relax outside as soon as camp was tended to. A few crew members even tested their balancing skills this afternoon on the high wire act of slack-lining.

We are happy to say that this weekend is shaping up to be a perfect time to be on the mountain. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 50s with no chance of rain and clear skies! Hope to see you at the lodge!

Good morning!

"How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains!" -John Muir.

John Muirs' words could not bring more truth than they do today. Sunny, wide open, blue skies touching down on all of  the surrounding mountain peaks brings out the beauty of The Great Smoky National Park. We are blessed today with warm(er) temps that should carry on through the rest of the week. There is no better spot to soak in the wonderful views of the mountains than LeConte Lodge. So step into those hiking boots and we hope to see you on top of of the mountain.
