Good Afternoon,

Another clear and sunny day here at the summit. Not a cloud insight and no chance of rain today or tomorrow. Temperatures are on the rise with yesterdays high at 68 degrees and looking to be even warmer as the week goes on. Reminder that it is usually 20-25 degrees warmer at the base of the mountain so be sure to hike with plenty of water and be prepared for temperatures in the low 90s.
It is always a good day at the lodge when we get to see our llama friends. Due to maintenance work on Trillium Gap Trail our llama team will be bringing supplies up on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for the rest of the season. Happy Hiking.

Good Morning All,

There are a lot of amazing places in the world but talk with the crew of LeConte Lodge and they will surely tell you that this is the best place of them all. "It doesn't even feel like work" says crew member Mo. "I feel at home when at the lodge" raves head cook Emily. Such an amazing place its hard to think how it could be better but with such an OUTSTANDING group of people living/working here it certain gets better each and every day. So lace up those hiking boots and come share the mountain life with some this wonderful crew.
Though the forecast is calling for a reasonably clear day the mountain has other plans. Heavy clouds moving in and out of camp all morning are giving us small glimpses of the valley below with little spurts of sunshine. Small scattered showers are on the radar. It is currently 56 degrees outside with a high expected to be in the low 60s. The overnight lows are still remaining in the low 40s. For those planning a hike up be sure to bring that rain gear just incase.

Good Afternoon,

We have been getting some really great views from Myrtle Point these past few days. Located just 0.7 miles from the lodge, Myrtle Point is one of the more popular sites at the summit. Offering 360 degree views on a clear day its easy to see why. It is also the best spot on the mountain to observe some of the most spectacular sun rises.
A little cloud coverage this morning is keeping most folks indoors and enjoying what the lodge has to offer from the inside. Though there is not much sunlight it is considerably warm outside, currently 54 degrees. A few scattered showers on the radar but fingers crossed it gets pushed around us. Last night the low only reached 42 degrees. Those planning a hike up be sure to pack plenty of water with these temperatures on the rise.

Good morning,

With a beautiful day behind us, we are socked in this morning. The sun was shining bringing our high to 50 degrees while overnight our low dropped to 35 degrees. Today, we are going to be in the clouds for a majority of the day leaving us a little chillier than expected. However, we are still supposed to be in the low to mid 50s in the mid afternoon. Tomorrow, be prepared for 50 degrees and rain showers. Beginning mid day tomorrow, we are expecting a half an inch of rain. Be prepared with those waterproof layers!

Good Afternoon,

Another chilly night is behind us with an overnight low of 27 degrees. I was curled up under my blanket with my heater roaring as I fell asleep last night. Yesterday, our high of 42 felt warm compared to our overnight temps and I was able to keep my windows open for a majority of the day. Today, we are expecting a warm up topping around 50 degrees.. I'm sure the llamas will be happy about that. The birds are chirping, deer are roaming around, and we've already seen our fare share of day hikers hanging out in the office. We hope to see you at the top soon as well!

Smokey would like to remind you that Trillium Gap Trail is currently closed to day hikers Monday through Thursday for trail maintenance. During the remainder of the season, he and his llama brethren will be summiting Monday, Wednesday and Friday. As you won't be able to see them on the trail anymore, a friendly reminder that when they first arrive at the lodge, they do need a break before you are able to hang out with them. Once they have about a 20 minute break and have a chance to eat their food, you can pet them on the neck and take all the pictures you want!

Good morning all,

It is an unexpectedly COLD morning up top. Last night right before I went to bed, the thermometer read 32 degrees. Upon waking up this morning, it read 27 degrees! An unexpected cold snap at 6593 feet! Today, we aren't expecting much of a warm up reaching the mid to low 40s at most. If you are planning a summit today, be cautious as there may be some icy spots on the trail.

Yesterday during my afternoon nap, I awoke to some rustling outside my window. Expecting some children running around, I opened my curtains to see a doe and her two babies grazing among the grass. Opening my window, she stared at me as I gazed back at her. Eventually moving on to a different patch of grass, I moved on as well noticing the chill that was coming through my window.

A quick friendly reminder to all that wildlife should not be approached. Bears, squirrels and deer alike are wild animals and should not be fed, or messed with.

Happy Monday,

This morning I awoke to the wind howling and rain pounding on my roof. Last night, the relaxing rain storm we received overnight lulled me to sleep in my cozy room. Within the last 24 hours, we received 1.74 inches of rain and with an overnight low of 38 degrees, guests and crew are all huddled in their warm beds this morning. The only movement in camp is the squirrels and birds as they awake from their slumber. Today, we are expecting the rain to stop and the clouds to clear but, temps will remain in the mid to lower 40s. If you plan on a summit today, bring those waterproof layers as the trees tend to send their excess water dripping down ones back adding an extra chill. Have a fantastic Monday!

Good Morning and Happy Mothers Day!

Yesterday, as expected, turned out to be a wet one. With a high of 53 and low of 47, we also added 2.06 inches of rain to our yearly total. This morning we woke up to more rain that should be continuing throughout the next 24 hours. If you are hiking up today, you can expect cooler temps (45-50 degrees) and rain. Some of the crew went out in the rain last night on a quick jaunt to Myrtle Point and came back completely dry in their rain gear. With a quick warm up by the heater and coffee/ hot chocolate, they were all warmed up and ready to hit the hay. We hope to see you at the top enjoying the hot beverages we have to offer!

We have had quite a few bear sightings over the past three weeks, so it's time for everyone hiking up to see us to be "bear aware!". Please notify us or the NPS of any sightings so that the proper steps can be taken to educate and protect visitors, and keep the bear safe and wild. Thanks!

Good Morning,

All is wet and cold in camp this morning as crew and guests alike huddle by their heaters and drink warm beverages. Overnight, we reached a low of 48 degrees and gained .52 inches of rain. Today, we are expecting the rain to continue and temps will be in the mid to lower 50 degree range. If you plan of a summit today, remember those warm waterproof layers! We have the hot beverages ready and heaters are running full blast. We can't wait to see you at the top!

Another Reminder: Great Smoky Mountains National Park officials announced that a 2-year trail rehabilitation project will begin next week on Trillium Gap Trail. Due to the construction process on the narrow trail, a full closure is necessary for the safety of both the crew and visitors. The trail and associated parking lot along Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail will be closed May 13 through November 15 on Monday mornings at 7:00 a.m. through Thursday evenings at 5:30 p.m. weekly. The trail will be fully open each week on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and on federal holidays. Our llama team has been permitted to use the trail for their weekly supply runs. Their days for the season will be Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Good morning all,

This morning, I awoke to chilly temps and a light breeze outside requiring a light jacket. The skies are cloudy at the moment but the colors of the sun rising in the distance have been finding their way through. With an overnight temp of 46 degrees, we were all bundled up in our cabins enjoying the heat from our heaters. Today, we're expecting a high of 55 and scattered thunderstorms beginning in the early afternoon. If you're planning on reaching the summit today, remember those warm and waterproof layers.
