Good Morning,
The script has flipped dramatically in just a matter of hours. Yesterday saw mostly sunny skies and mild temps over the mountain, drawing in quite the crowds. Alum Cave Trail was certainly the popular route up and down for many. Perhaps everyone was responsible and decided to get their LeConte fix in yesterday while conditions were so pleasant. The winds ramped up and the clouds rolled in during the night, and now the rains have started. It’s shaping up to be a sloppy and stormy day for us, and the extended forecast looks much the same. There could be some reprieve from the sour weather late Thursday this week, but otherwise the next decent day appears to be Sunday. So come ready for wet hikes when traversing the mountain this week. Temps will likely hover in the 50s today and winds will be a constant nuisance, gusting as much as 45mph at times. Stay dry, safe, and have a great day.

Good Morning,
Residents of the mountain today are waking up to another soothing sunrise. A wonderful prelude to what should be an enjoyably sunny day for rambles to and from the lodge this Monday. Light breezes out of the north will be present today keeping the temps somewhat cool again, lucky to see us reach 60° this afternoon. There is an ever-so-slight chance of precip occurring late this evening. As we step closer to midweek, the possibilities of turbulent weather increase significantly as the next few days are looking wet and stormy. So plan accordingly if you want to keep yourself and your belongings nice and dry while traversing the mountain. Up to 14.5 hours of daylight these days with the summer solstice but two weeks away. Time sure is flying by! Have a great start to the week. Good Morning,
A superb Saturday has rolled right into a stunning Sunday. Visitors to the mountain should enjoy sunny skies and some more cool temps like yesterday, reaching the low 60s this afternoon. There is the tiniest of chances for some rain late this evening, but not worth enough attention to shake a stick at. Winds will be light and out of the north, hence the faint chill in the air for this time of year. The mountain was covered up in hikers hailing from far and wide yesterday, and we expect more of the same today with such delightful conditions. The wildlife seem to be enjoying it as well…deer are grazing, squirrels are being mischievous, and the numerous birds are singing. Life continues to thrive atop Mt. LeConte. Have a great end to the week. Good Morning,
The skies are clear, the sun is out, and it’s going to be a stellar Saturday on the mountain. Light breezes and somewhat cooler temps for this time of year will have it feeling chilly on occasion, so good to have an extra layer handy. Hopefully the sun’s steady rays will help us climb into the lower 60s this afternoon. Otherwise today will make for some great outdoor ramblings in the woods. Sunday’s forecast looks promising as well to help cap off a beautiful first weekend of June in the Smokies. Have a great day. Good Afternoon,
After a stormy night wrought with flashes and rumbles, the mountain top is beginning this Friday in thick cloud cover. Occasional mists remind us that summertime in the Smokies is rarely clear skies and unbroken sunshine. The air is mostly calm and temps mild in the 50s currently. Skies are expected to become less cloudy this evening with winds picking up a tad, possibly gusting around 30mph. Saturday looks decent for the weekend warriors, calling for mostly sunny skies over the mountains and temps this high up in elevation reaching the lower 60s. With it being the first weekend of June and families looking to get their summer vacations into gear, expect plenty of traffic congestion in and around the park tomorrow. Beginning this Saturday, we will be extending our gift shop hours to account for the increased visitor traffic and longer daylight hours. Guests and day hikers alike will be able to purchase souvenirs and snacks from our gift shop during the hours of 8:30-9:30 AM and 12:00-5:00 PM daily. The lobby will continue to be closed to the public outside those hours. As always, any guest arriving after 5:00 PM should proceed to the Dining Hall to check in with a crew member. Have a great rest of the day. Good Morning,
After a calm night under the stars and crescent moon, folks are waking up to a cloudy mountain top to start this Thursday. Looks we will be in and out of the grey veil most of the day, with strong potential for spotty thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Don’t be deceived by any occasional glimpses of the sun, as wet weather can pop up at a moments notice this time of year. Temps will feel good around the lodge as we move up from the lower 50s this morning into the mid 60s this afternoon. Winds could pick up a bit today gusting as much as 20mph. The grounds continue to green and thicken around the lodge with each passing day. The deer sure are loving the endless buffet, as it’s not unusual to see them roaming and feasting between cabins. Remember to respect their space, as well as all wildlife in the park, while visiting. Have a great day. Good Morning,
Yowza it’s June! Should be a relatively decent start to the new month on the mountain. Guests are waking up to a mostly cloudy summit with intermittent glimpses of blue above. We are expecting mostly sunny skies today with a slight chance of an early afternoon thunderstorm. Temps will be quite comfortable again today in the upper 60s. Winds are to be calm. Tomorrow looks like the possibility for wet weather increases dramatically, so have the rainproof layers handy whether you are staying up top tonight or tomorrow. Have a great day. |
