It is another wet day on the mountain. The high yesterday was 60 with a low of 43. We have received over 3/4 of an inch of rain this morning.
It was a such a beautiful day yesterday that Kris Moose decided to hang out on the back porch and enjoy the warm sun. This is Kris's 6th time up Mt. LeConte. The high yesterday was 55 with a low of 37. It seems to be getting colder and colder. It is just a matter of time before the white stuff returns to the mountain.
I was finally able to transfer the photos from my camera to the computer. Here is a picture of the happy couple that got married a couple of weeks ago. Katherine Jones and Josh Holsworth met while on crew in 2005. Congratulations Josh and Kat.
Now on to the weather. Rain, lots of rain. 2 inches to be exact. We received 2 inches yesterday. The high was 50 with a low 40. They are calling for rain today, but the blue sky just popped thru. We will see what the day has to offer. The rain stopped long enough to give us an amazing show of the valley below. The high yesterday was 52 with a low of 46. We received another inch on top of the 1.25" we received yesterday morning. This morning is wet. A lot of rain coming our way.
It's a rainy sunday. It has dumped 1.24" this morning and it is still coming down. The high yesterday was 58 with low last night of 39. It is looking like a cold, damp, rainy day.
It's that time of day when last nights guests are heading down the mountain and tonights guests are on their way up. Soon these rocking chairs will be filled with people relaxing and enjoying the cool mountain air. Today is going to be a beautiful day. We have been in the high 60's all week. The lows have been in the low 50's. If you are not attending any college football games this weekend, you should lace up those hiking boots and come up see us.
Summer is hanging on. The high yesterday was 69 with a low of 50. We actually hit 70 this week. That is pretty warm for the later part of September. The days are beautiful and we are starting to see some color in the lower elevations. For those of you who have spent the night on a weekend night, you probably recognize Ranger Dave. Dave decided to run up the mountain this morning and see how fast he could get here. His time up Alum Cave trail was 52:22. Yes, you read that correctly. 52 minutes and 22 seconds. He came very close to breaking the all time record of 45 minutes. Dave says he will have to keep at it until the record is broken. Congratulations Dave!!!
The summer flowers have gone to seed and the birds are enjoying a feast. The juncos are flying from flower to the next eating the seed. The days have been amazing for the past week. High sixties during the day with mid forties at night. I am getting spoiled with these bright blue skies. September is proving to be one of the best months on the mountain.
We start recruiting LeConte crew early on. Addie, Wilder, and Lydia all said they want to live up here. Wilder said he wanted to live up here only if he could download games. Lydia Heinz has been up to LeConte 11 times. This is Addie's third time and Wilder's second time.
