Hello down there LeConte lovers! Logan came up to visit us today and brought his cute smile and enthusiasm as always. We even had some time for a crew photo, minus Tate (sorry man). It's almost Halloween everybody which begs the question... what will you be? Up here we've been talking about many costume ideas from being Matt McConaughey (Luke), powder puff girls, to even a jolly pumpkin. Tomorrow should bring some surprises and fun. Also, we've got a lot of boomers up here running around and squeaking so be careful where you place your food or candy.
Today has been mostly sunny with a current temp of 50. Last nights low was 38. Llamas are on their way up the mountain tomorrow. Happy Hiking everybody! -Justin Yesterday was cloudy with a short drizzle, ended up being 61/43 but today we are all sunshine and clear skies. We are seeing a lot of "presents" left by bears, and some even checking out our windows! Make sure to put your food up if you are staying anywhere in the park, the bears are ravenous.
Our crew is planning on dressing up for Halloween along with carving pumpkins, are you hiking up in costume? Enjoy this gorgeous weekend guys! Greetings valley dwellers! It's a beautiful, crisp day here on the mountain. Our llama mama and the boys are heading up trillium to bring us delicious goodies today. Jess is cooking us some bacon this morning to put in one of her amazing frittatas! A frequent blog comment contributor, Tammy, stayed at the lodge last night and brought us some awesome festive fall cookies! Thanks a bunch Tammy! The current temperature is 48 and the low last night was 39. Brrrrr! Remember your cold weather gear if you're planning a hike up. Happy hiking, love Turnip.
It was 40 when we woke up yesterday, then it dropped over a course of an hour to freezing cold, windy, rain conditions with sleet... And then snow!! It is now 24 degrees, windy, icey, and very cold.
Pack layers, gloves, crampons, layers, AND MORE GLOVES. It is slippery and icey up here, be prepared! We're not sure when it will let up. llamas tomorrow. 4:54 pm update, Henry said they have had their first snow. It is alternating between snow, rain and freezing rain. Very windy and 31 degrees. Hope to have pictures tomorrow.
Talked to the Lodge early this afternoon. They had experienced a short sleet storm, and temperature was in the low 30's, very windy, wet and the rocks are slick with moisture. No ice was mentioned but if the temps drop more as expected tonight, Saturday hikers could experience some slick spots on the sheltered areas of the trails. Snow showers are possible overnight, but the cold and wind will be the biggest problem at least until Sunday. Pack layers, hats, and gloves. Don't forget to stay hydrated. Finally, some sun!
We had mostly cloudy days with 62/48 being the temps, no rain yet. Rain, when will you grace us with your presence? So the snow thing may still be a thing but possibly not as intense as first thought. We're keeping our eyes on the forecasts and anyone planning a visit this week should definitely check them out to make sure they pack the appropriate gear! It is for sure going to be cold regardless! We have llamas on Friday and Sunday, leave room for the boys on the trail! With the glorious fall colors cascading down the mountain you should consider taking Bullhead for your next trip up! Cool rock formations, fantastic sights, and once you start gaining elevation it turns into a fairytale forest. Give it a try! You heard it here folks, we might get snow over the weekend. Snow. After a 51/43 gorgeous super moon night? The frozen chunks of water might make their way up here Friday and hang out over the weekend, pack waterproof, micro-spikes, and layers just in case! We'll let you know when we know for certain, but there is a strong probability. In other news we would love to send this postcard down but we need an address!
Llamas on Wed/Fri/Sun this week. We are having difficulty deciding what to carve on our pumpkins....any suggestions? We are having beautiful weather up here! Clear and moonlit nights and sunny days, we are seeing all of fall explode up here. 59/42 seem to be the constant temps lately, but be careful when that wind stirs up, it gets chilly really quickly. If you are coming up Trillium the next few days take the short side Brushy trail to the overlook, it will be gorgeous.
Llamas on Monday/Wednesday/Friday this coming week. Greetings valley dwellers! Another beautiful day, high on LeConte! Matt, Tate, P-nut, and Jess went on a night run to the brewery last night, so it looks like it's nap weather today. Some weird clouds are rolling in so it'll be a perfect day to catch up on those lost zzz's. Tate's in the office today! So come say hey, buy a shirt, wake him up, make a lot of noise! His goal is 36 cups of coffee for the day to keep him going. The current temperature is 56 and last nights low was 40. Come on snow! Happy hiking! Love, Turnip. Little rainbow windmill and our weather box enjoying the sun while it lasts today!
