Good morning! I hope everyone is well this warm Sunday morning. Yesterday's high reached all the was to 65 and the low was once again 47. The clouds came and went all afternoon, but we ended up with a beautiful sunset in the end. Today it is 57 degrees already and partly cloudy but there are thunderstorms in the forecast, so everyone be prepared to get a little damp on the way up today! Happy hiking, everyone!
Good day, all! And what a lovely Saturday this is shaping up to be so far! Yesterday's high was 62 and the low was 47 and a few stray showers dropped only .03" of rain on us. Today has been partly cloudy and on the warmer side, already up to 55. This is a perfect day to get outside and hike up to see us on top!
Hello again! This is Ruthie, back from days off. I hope everyone had as wonderful of a Memorial Day Weekend as I did, visiting with my city sister up on the mountain for a few days! Yesterday's high was 63 and the low was only 47. We had only .05" of rain yesterday, but it is currently cloudy and 53 so we might be in for a few showers today.
We are having a closeout sale in the online store right now! Right now if you buy a T-shirt design poster and a 2014 calendar together, you will receive both, plus S&H for $14!
Hello down there. Brian here once again. Sorry about yesterday's absence of words. It was by far my best blog yet, but unfortunately I failed to deliver. #mybad
Yesterday was busy. We had groceries, llamas, and bears.....oh my! The high reached 66 and the low was 46 degrees. We did not receive that much needed rain that was in the forecast. It is currently 57 degrees and cloudy. The weather people have rain in the forecast so please hike safe. Peace
Hello down there! Brian here again once more. This is my new squirrel friend, Remus. He likes to eat leftover pancake crumblies that the llamas left behind. Together, we like to go for extended afternoon walks through the forest. Sometimes I sing to him.
The contrast between yesterday and today is astounding. We had beautiful weather for Memorial day. Warm and sunny. Today is quite nappy. Clouds, wind and rain are what you are going to experience if you come up and see us. It is currently a chilly 52 degrees, with a light drizzle. Yesterday's high reached 64 and the low was 42. We received .10 inches of rain over not with more to come. Happy trails! #hashtag
Hello down there! Brian here once again. Just so we are clear, kangaroos have not yet been reintroduced to the park. Hopefully soon!
Its been a great holiday weekend. We've had tons of day hikers and much sun. #tourists #KangarooSightings
Today is lllllllama day. I know the llama schedule has been confusing and for that, I'm sorry. We are back on normal schedule (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). The weather lately has been perfect for hiking. Currently it is 54 degrees and clear skies. Yesterday's high was 62 and the low was 42 degrees. Still no rain, but I feel that is soon to change. Happy trails
Hello down there! Brian here blogging for a few days while Ruthie hangs out with her sister #bonding. Today is a busy day around camp, with everyone here for the Memorial Day weekend. I always enjoy hearing the sounds around camp on beautiful days like today; the chirping animals, the people milling about, and the young children playing.
The temperature this afternoon is right around 60 degrees and it is quite sunful. Yesterday's high was 61, with a low of 30. Hopefully, this streak of good weather continues for all you folks coming up soon. Peace.
P.S. Happy Birthday Walt!
Welcome to the weekend, my friends! After today, I will be off for a bit to spend some time with my wonderful sister who is visiting from New York (a city sis and a mountain sis), so Brian will be taking over!
Yesterday was one of the most beautiful we've had so far! Fair weather, wispy clouds were the only ones to grace the blue sky with their presence all day, coming and going in a light breeze. The high was a mild 56 and the over night low fell to 30. This morning the temperature is already 48 and we have partly cloudy skies.
And now for a special treat! In keeping with tradition (somewhat) throughout the season you'll be introduced to the crew a bit more in depth in their own words. So, without further adieu, Adam Rector....
Greetings earthlings. My name is Adam Rector and this is my first season as a crew member here at the lodge. At this point, you may be asking yourself “how was this young gentleman discovered as the optimal Leconte Lodge crew member?” (Even if you weren’t asking yourself that, you are still allowed to read the story.) Last November, I stayed as a guest here at the lodge. After we checked in, I sat down to enjoy a mug of hot hot chocolate. As soon as my warm buttocks hit the chair, a crew member entered the dining room and asked for volunteers for a rescue. Being the charitable sort that I am, I volunteered to go help. After the crew, other volunteers and I completed the rescue, Ruthie (professional bloggerist) engaged me in conversation to persuade me to leave Chattanooga, TN, and bring my skills to Mt. Leconte semi-permanently as a crew member. After much persuasion and flattery on her part, I agreed to accept employment at the lodge, and thus far this has been the wisest decision I have made in my 22 years of existence. (on earth)
When I am not on the mountain, I enjoy traveling all over the place and attempting to perform standup comedy for other humans. One of my long term goals is to write down funny things so that a human will pay me to use those funny things (professional comedy writer), but for now I write down funny things for free. When I am on the mountain and not working, I spend my time reading, writing, and sleeping (while waiting for inspiration)
My favorite part about living on Mt. Leconte is that I don’t not live on a mountain, and because of that I have the opportunity to evaluate my priorities and attempt to figure out what is important in life.
Also, I believe that science and religion can co-exist.
What a beautiful morning for walk in the woods! Yesterday was thick with clouds from beginning to end, leaving up with .3" of precipitation. The high was only 52 and the over night low dropped below freezing to 29....it felt hard to stay warm yesterday. Today, however, there is not a cloud in the sky and the temperature is already 40. It feels warm while you're moving in the sunshine, but stand still for too long and you might need an extra layer.
It is Memorial Day weekend which means it is going to be a very busy weekend for us and much busier on the trails than normal. Everyone remember to be courteous to fellow hikers and mindful of the beauty that you are surrounded by! Have a fun and safe Friday!
Welcome to the LeConte Lodge blog. We hope you enjoy the information we provide to make your trip to the lodge the best it can be.
