Rhododendron blooming on Inspiration Point.
Good morning! I hope everyone is well this warm Sunday morning. Yesterday's high reached all the was to 65 and the low was once again 47. The clouds came and went all afternoon, but we ended up with a beautiful sunset in the end. Today it is 57 degrees already and partly cloudy but there are thunderstorms in the forecast, so everyone be prepared to get a little damp on the way up today! Happy hiking, everyone!

Contrails in the sunset.
Good day, all! And what a lovely Saturday this is shaping up to be so far! Yesterday's high was 62 and the low was 47 and a few stray showers dropped only .03" of rain on us. Today has been partly cloudy and on the warmer side, already up to 55. This is a perfect day to get outside and hike up to see us on top!

Sunset from Cliff Tops.
What a beautiful morning for walk in the woods! Yesterday was thick with clouds from beginning to end, leaving up with .3" of precipitation. The high was only 52 and the over night low dropped below freezing to 29....it felt hard to stay warm yesterday. Today, however, there is not a cloud in the sky and the temperature is already 40. It feels warm while you're moving in the sunshine, but stand still for too long and you might need an extra layer.

It is Memorial Day weekend which means it is going to be a very busy weekend for us and much busier on the trails than normal. Everyone remember to be courteous to fellow hikers and mindful of the beauty that you are surrounded by! Have a fun and safe Friday!

Not a well framed shot, but the colors from this spot last evening as some rain rolled in were too interesting to pass up.
Good morning, ya'll! (That's "you all" for readers not versed in "deep south".) Kind of a rainy grey morning so far. Yesterday's high reached a balmy 65 with partly cloudy skies all day. The over night low was only 48 and we received .05" of rain. Right now the temperature is only 46 and we've had showers throughout the morning. There is rain in the high elevation forecast, so be vigilant about staying dry if you are hiking today!

Cabins at dusk.
Hello again and apologies for no blog yesterday! Between bears and bad weather is was just not in the cards yesterday. Today, however, the sun is shinning, the weather is beautiful and the llamas are up! Yesterday's high was 58 and the low was 41. It is already 63 up top and we've got blue skies and a light breeze. There will be rain moving in tonight, so be sure to bring your rain gear if you are staying the  night with us!
The llamas have a new schedule and it will be permanent from here on out: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. They hike up Trillium Gap trail as always. Everyone have a beautiful Wednesday!

Last minute sunset last night.
Greetings from the top! What started out as a clear, sunny morning has slowly turned cloudy and grey. No rain yet, but the forecast is calling for evening showers. Currently it is 55 degrees. Yesterday's high was 54 and the low was 47. The mountain finally received a bit more rain, if only .3", it was well needed.
Now in bear news. This has been a very active spring for bears throughout the Park and the lodge has been no exception! We have had bears in camp as well as many on the trails coming up. Just a reminder that any and all food trash MUST be packed out with you if you are day hiking. This includes, most importantly, those things that you might think "Hey, this is biodegradable, I can just throw it into the woods!". Things like apple cores, orange peels and pistachio shells are some of the most dangerous things to both bears and humans when tossed carelessly to the side of the trail. Please help protect both yourselves and the bears and be vigilant about food trash in the back country!

Sunrise this morning was odd and beautiful.
Hello once again from a foggy mountain top! This morning has been drizzly and grey, but it's 50 degrees so at least it's not cold! The sun came out for just a second during sunrise and illuminated some very interesting cloud patterns. Yesterday's high was 59 and the low was only 47 overnight. We received just .02" of rain. Today is stacking up to be a bit on the wet and dreary side, but we need the rain so I will count it as a win and just curl up with a good book! Everyone stay dry and happy in your journeys today, wherever they may be.

Mountain Ash on the brink of leafing. I've really enjoyed watching this tree come to life.
Good morning from the mountain top! Another cloudy day for us so far. Yesterday's high was again 63 and the low was 42. All of the rain we were promised yesterday apparently had other plan because we only received .1" throughout the day. It was, however, just enough rain to give all the plants and trees up here a little boost- many seemed to have sprung up over night! We'll have cone flowers and monk's hood before you know it!

Foggy flats on Alum.
Quite the foggy start to the weekend this morning. Yesterday's high was 63 and the low was 43. Right now we are stuck in a cloud and the temperature is 56. We have rain in the forecast today, so everyone be aware! Also, Alum Cave is open for the weekend! Everyone have a pleasant day and we will see you up top!
