Good Afternoon,
One wondered if the pattern would ever break, but finally, for the first time since June, we have ourselves a multi-day forecast that shows nothing but sunshine! Can’t ask for a much better lead into the upcoming holiday weekend. Conditions are stellar for outdoor exploration. Temps will continue to bounce between the 50s and 60s, and the light breeze at upper elevations will do just enough to take the edge off that persistent humidity. And the timing is especially great for the peak bloom happening for the various late summer wildflowers around the mountain. If you’ve been waiting for ideal hiking conditions to tackle the mountain, now through Friday is the time! Even the peregrine falcons like it well enough outside to come soaring up over the lodge. Have a great rest of the day.

Good Morning,
Although we’re waking up to vivid horizons and calm conditions atop the mountain, we know we’re in for some turbulent weather as the day rolls on. Beginning late this morning, clouds should thicken over the Smokies and start producing isolated storms that may persist well into the evening. So unless you begin your trek early today, it’s possible you could face some wet conditions on the hike up. Some storms today could produce heavy rainfall at times combined with gusty winds. Thankfully this atmospheric event will be a one-hit wonder, as tomorrow calls for superbly sunny skies. Have a great day. Good Morning,
Calm and mostly clear skies hover over the Smokies this fine Monday morning. The air is calm and warm, and should allow for some great hiking the first hours of the day before the atmosphere begins to cloud up. We have a slight chance of rain showers possible for this afternoon. Temps will hang around the 50s and 60s once again. Come Tuesday, the opportunities for thunderstorms increases, particularly in the afternoon, so come prepared for the return of wet conditions on the mountain. Have a great day. Good Afternoon,
The final weekend of August is here! What started out as a superbly sunny morning on the mountain has gradually turned into a cloudy and socked-in scene. Aside from the faintest of sprinkles at one point early this afternoon, we’ve managed to stay clear of anything substantially wet and dreary. Conditions should improve by this evening, hopefully offering up a sunset for tonight’s guests, then it’s a repeat of today’s forecast for on deck Sunday. Winds will be light to nonexistent up top, and temps will max out in the upper 60s. Another sign that summer is winding down atop Mt. LeConte, much of the vegetation is starting to go to seed. And this week will certainly witness the peak bloom for the Grass of Parnassus and Gentian that grace the upper reaches of our various trails. Have a great rest of the day. Good Morning,
We’re kicking off the last full week of August and the remaining 90 days of the 2022 season. Varying cloud layers hover above and below the mountain this morning. The air is calm and hungry guests chow down breakfast before hitting the trail. Today should start out splendidly with dappled sun and grand views. Temps will move between the 50s and 60s, and light winds will shift out of the north which could cause conditions up top to feel somewhat cool later. By mid afternoon we are anticipating the storm chances to ramp up and return, lingering through sunset before clearing back up. Tomorrow’s forecast looks much the same, so plan accordingly depending on when you foresee starting up the trail. Have a great day. Good Morning,
Yesterday turned out to be one of the nicest days on the mountain all month. A few times the clouds closed in thick, but conditions up top actually stayed dry for once from start to finish. We could see a repeat performance today as we wake up to sunny skies and colorful horizons. Temps should easily reach the mid 60s this afternoon and any winds will be light. Looking ahead to Thursday, hikers will have a decent morning for spending time on the trail before a chance of storms flares up by mid afternoon. Then once again we’re back in a pattern of hit-or-miss rain opportunities through the weekend. Have a great day. Good Morning,
It’s been a dark and dreary mountain to start this new week. The clouds have settled in thick with the occasional light sprinkle passing through. The grey veil is expected to hang around most if not all day today, but the worst of the rain chances seem to be behind us. We might get a taste of some calmer weather and sunshine these next couple days which would be a welcome change of scenery. Temps will hold steady in the 50s and 60s with only light winds. After last night’s gully washer, expect trails to be a bit soggy still with creeks riding higher than normal. Have a great day. Good Afternoon,
Once again the storms decided to spare Mt. LeConte on Saturday, and apart from a few pitter-patters on rooftops during the night, our trend of luck continues into this Sunday. Rain is predicted for this afternoon and evening though, with decent chances on tap for Monday as well. Winds will be light and variable while temps hold firm in the 50s and 60s. Count and wet and muddy trails at times. Despite our lack of sunshine over the better part of the last two months, the vegetation continues to fill in with color. The buzzing bees remain active bouncing from plant to plant, and even an uptick in fluttering swallowtails has been noticed. The blooming Grass of Parnassus and Gentian are slowly becoming more numerous along the upper reaches of a few trails, but are still a few days away from what could be described as being at peak. Have a great end to the week. Good Morning,
On several occasions Friday the clouds threatened to do something ominous, but alas, all bark and no bite from the skies yesterday over the mountain. We’re waking up to partly cloudy skies and a soul-warming sunrise this Saturday. Travelers will have a decent morning for rambles in the woods before the rain chances roll into town this afternoon. Temps will feel superb ranging from the 50s to 60s along with light winds. Sunday appears to be shaping up as a potential soaker from start to finish, so pack accordingly if staying up top this weekend. Have a great day! Good Morning,
It’s sunny skies over the mountain as we roll into this third Thursday of August. Much like yesterday, we should get to enjoy fairy clear and calm skies with only a slight chance of passing showers this afternoon. Temps will continue to range from the 50s to 60s up top accompanied by light winds. Come tomorrow, our nice little break of decent weather appears to be at an end. More turbulent weather and stormy conditions are being called for through the weekend. So have that in mind when planning your trails of choice and packing up the gear.
