Good morning friends,
Well yesterday started out cloudy and remained so for the rest of the day turning to mist in the late morning hours and continued misting for the entire day.
The mist however could not dampen the spirits of the dozens of hikers who made their way to the top. I myself did a little exploring, enjoying short hikes on the Boulevard, Bullhead and Alum cave trails. I included one of my favorites, the short loop up to and down from cliff Tops. The views of course weren’t there but there’s really something special about a mountain trail bordered by thick moss and beautiful spruce trees. I think the mist suited it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. (Picture attached)
Well friends the temperatures ranged from a high yesterday of 47 degrees and a low last night of 38 degrees The current temperature this morning is 45 degrees, and we had 0.11 inches of precipitation. The rain is forecast to continue through the weekend and into Monday.
Just a reminder, as I reported yesterday the forecast is for this rain to continue and for our temperatures to drop significantly.
If the forecast is accurate be careful on the trails as well as the roads.
Everyone have a great day and stay safe.

Good afternoon friends,
Just wanted to provide you with a little weather update in the event your planning to hike up this way over the next few days.
The weather started out as cloudy early this morning and is currently misting. The current three day forecast is calling for rain to move in and continue through Monday with temperatures predicted to continue dropping and could reach as low as 11 degrees by Monday.  This of course could create hazardous conditions on trails and roadways leading to trail heads.
According to the NPS website, for updated road and weather information you can call the National Park Service at (865) 436-1200. Once you hear a voice, press 1, then press 2 for road information or 1 for a weather forecast."

Good morning friends,
The temperatures ranged from a high yesterday of 45 degrees and a low last night of 28 degrees The current temperature this morning is 44 degrees, we had no precipitation but the skies are currently cloudy this morning.

It was a beautiful Thanksgiving day on LeConte yesterday. Sunshine and milder temperatures and amazing long distance views. It was great seeing so many people hiking, many with family and loved ones.
Early hikers were working up an appetite for that Thanksgiving feast and late hikers were working off that Thanksgiving day feast.
We had the added joy of seeing our beloved Llama team as they made their last run of the season. They’re amazing animals that along with their handlers (or as we like to call them wranglers)do a tremendous job of supplying the lodge with so many of the things that make the Lodge so special.

Everyone have a great day today, find time to enjoy the outdoors and stay safe.

Good morning friends,

The temperatures ranged from a high yesterday of 48 degrees and a low last night of 23 degrees The current temperature this morning is 29 degrees, we had 0.13 inches of precipitation and it’s currently windy but clear and beautiful up top.

Well the crew cleared out yesterday and headed home after a rewarding season on top of LeConte. Their warm personalities and smiling faces will certainly be missed for the next few months but the busy days have been replaced by the simple quite beauty of the mountain.
We hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving and if you decide to walk off some of that Thanksgiving day feast, there’s no better place than LeConte. Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good afternoon friends,

Well it was a windy and wet night here on LeConte.  We received 0.35 inches of rain last night and had a high temperature yesterday of 48 degrees and a low of 36 degrees.  Last night was  the last day of the 2019 season for us so on behalf of the management and crew we thank all of you who visited with us and we hope to see you again next year. Even though the lodge is closed for the season, we will still be looking forward to keeping you informed of conditions here on top and to sharing occasional photos and insights. Again, thanks from all of us. Take care, enjoy the trails and most importantly stay safe.

Good Afternoon All,

Its a rain/snow free day for us at 6593 feet. Mild winds are pushing those clouds in and out of camp letting small amounts of sunlight hit us. There is a fair amount of remaining ice and snow on the ground. Be sure to pack those traction devices as we expected ice to be lingering on the trails, especially in those shady areas. We are currently at 46 degrees which is a nice increase from last nights low of 28 degrees. No rain or snow on the forecast for today but we are expecting rain to start early in the morning and continue into the day tomorrow. High winds are also on the forecast for mid day tomorrow. All of crew are spending their time today getting their gear packed as the end of the season gets closer. All of camp will be cleared by mid day tomorrow. Our services will be closed (kitchen lunch sales and office t-shirt sales).

Good Morning All,

A crystal clear morning. Bright sun reflecting off the lingering snow. Icicles dripping in the warm sun. Trees shaking their branches to relief the weight of the snow. It is truly a winter wonderland at LeConte today. We didn't not receive any more snow last night but with a low of 20 degrees not much melting has happened. Today we are expecting temperatures to rise into the 40s and look to see some melting. Expect ice to remain in those shady areas so traction devices are still a must. Crew has found it to be a perfect day for snow angels. It may be cold outside but thats not gonna stop the crew from having a good time.

Good morning all!

Its a beautiful day up top loaded with sunshine, snowball fights and our yearly Mountain Thanksgiving made by Head Cook Emily and Assistant Cook Kemp. We are excited to celebrate the holiday together at 6593’. Our high temp yesterday was 43 degrees while our overnight temp got down to a chilly 20 degrees. The buckets of rain we had last night turned into snow around 10:30pm leaving us with two inches of fresh powder on the ground. If you plan to hike up today, bring plenty of layers as we remain in the mid 20s to mid 30s range, and don’t forget those traction devices! We hope to see you at the top!

8:30 PM Update - US 441 (Newfound Gap Rd) will be closing tonight at 11:00 PM on account of the weather. Temps are expected to drop below freezing and lingering precip could transition to sleet and snow.

Cherokee Orchard Rd remains open for guests to utilize Rainbow Falls or Bull Head trails in the morning.

Good morning,

The rains have caught up to us this morning. We have already received 0.5 inches and looking to more than double that before the day is over. We are staying above freezing as of now, currently 43 degrees. Later this evening the temperatures are going to drop and this rain is going to turn into snow. Expect high water levels on the trails today. Pack that rain gear and warm layers. After today it looks like the rest of the season will be spent in clear sunny conditions but cold temperatures are expected to linger. If you are planning a hike up be sure to bring those traction devices as all this water will surely turn to ice overnight.

Good Morning,

We are sitting in the clouds this morning as strong winds push those rain clouds closer in. Forecasts are calling for the rains to start falling around midday. Thankfully temperatures are staying well above freezing so we should avoid any snow or ice build up. It is currently 41 degrees outside but with these winds and a slight mist in the air it feels much colder. Be sure to pack that rain gear and some warmer layers. Our llama friends have got two more trips up the mountain before the end of the season. They will be coming up Sunday and Wednesday. These warmer days look to be coming to an end this weekend as we are looking at chilling temperatures to come back Saturday night.

Note to any guests hoping to summit via Trillium Gap Trail. Roaring Fork officially closes for the winter on Nov. 25, so anyone parked inside the gate on the 24th runs the risk of getting locked in.
