Back at it again....

8/31/2016

Hello down there LeConte lovers we are finally back online! Things up on the mountain have been fun as always. The crew just recently celebrated Christmas in August a couple of days ago, where we invited the ACE trail crew over for burgers and then had a Secret Santa surprise afterward. Gifts included everything from a crotchet hat and books to even a lava lamp. Of course we had themed Christmas carols playing the whole time as well, and mountain mochas all around. Merry Christmas from our family to yours! Tis the season! Today is Logans last day at the lodge where he will be heading down starting as a chef for a nonprofit in a couple of months. Good luck in all of your adventures buddy, we sure are going to miss you.

The weather up here has been pretty "bluebird" like the last couple of days and we are looking forward to the fall temps and colors. The low last night was 51 and the current temp is 64.7 with a bit of an overcast sky. Bonnie brought the llamas up today. Enjoy your hike up to the summit!

The crew should be able to start blogging from the mountain tomorrow afternoon.  It is a clear, sunny day so far. The high yesterday was 73 and low was 48.

Llamas will be packing Wednesday and Friday this week so give them room at the Grotto Falls Parking area.

Luke "Babycakes" Dowbiggin

,Hello fellow explorers! This is positive-vibe-warrior Luke here and this is my very first blog post! Tate's slinging merch in the office and having a grand ole time giving tours of our fabulous estate. I'm looking forward to seeing my roommate Justin get back today from his days off. BFF. The llamas came up today and spit on my cabin window per usual. It's currently 60 degrees outside. Last night's temp was 43. So, I'd recommend bringing a coat! And no, I do not understand why my nickname is Babycakes, but hey I kind of like it! I hope you all have a great day!

8.20.16. Rain....again?!

8/20/2016

We were slammed with rain again today!

Yesterday was 61 with .18" of rain with an overnight of 54. Today was consistently, cloudy, and chilly so be prepared!

There are tons of butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds who are enjoying the last of the coneflowers and beebalm. We're excited to see what shows up next!

Llamas on Monday!

Its getting chilly up here!

The high for yesterday was 67 and the low was 54 but it sure seems chillier than you would suspect!

We have also been rained on most of the day so remember to pack layers guys, it will suck the heat right out of you!

We have llamas next Monday, happy hiking!

Question of the day: Which crew bio would you like to see next?

8.18.16. Cool down

8/18/2016

After a 60/54 day we have had cold rain, hot sunshine, and cloud cover.

You get everything up here!

Pack for layers, that rain sure knocks you out.

Question of the day: What trail would you recommend for a persons first time up here? They can't all be Alum!

Llamas tomorrow!

Rumbley grumbley summer times in the smokies

Greetings valley dwellers! Turnip here, back at it again after some of that good ol off mountain rest and relaxation. Today I'm kicking it in the office, surrounded by lodge history, selling those sweet sweet coveted T-shirts. Some of you may remember when you could count on one hand the merchandise we sold. Now we have 40+ different items of LeConte Lodge swag available. Crazy right!? These items are just some of the supplies that come up on the airlift each year. Working in the office always reminds me of how old this place actually is. Our walls are covered in interesting lodge info. Fun fact, Jack Huff strapped his mother Martha to a rocking chair back in 1929 and carried her all the way up the mountain. Is that a dedicated son or what!? I know I couldn't do it. It is a little cloudy up here today but that doesn't make it any less beautiful. The birds are still singing, the flowers are still blooming, and the air is still crisp and sweet. Summer showers are in the forecast for the afternoon so, rain gear! Snorkels, floaties, goggles, etc... You know the drill! The current temperature is a light breezy 64 and the low last night was 57. Happy hiking and much love, Turnip.

8.16.16. Rain surprises

8/16/2016

What a day!

Rain, shine, more rain, clear views. After a cloudy 57/69 day we are unsure if to expect rain, shine, or both.

Pack rain gear either way!
