Good morning all! I'm writing from a chilly, cloudy mountain top today. Yesterday's high was 42 and the low fell to 31 over night. We received .1" on rain yesterday and it came mostly in quick down pours. Today's forecast is calling for rain and low temperatures, so packing rain gear as always and something warm and cozy to change into once you reach the top would be my advice today! Currently it is overcast and in the lower 40's. Happy hiking!
Good news, Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is scheduled to reopen on Friday, May 1. The llamas are currently packing on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, but trips are subject to change.
Not so good news for those that love to hike Alum Cave Trail. Just a reminder that Alum Cave Bluff Trail and associated parking areas will be closed starting Monday, May 4 . They will be closed Monday through Thursday for trail reconstruction through the Trails Forever Program. Guests are strongly encouraged to car pool and get to the trails early to secure a parking area. For additional information about the closure see the following link: http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/alum-cave-closure-faqs.htm . Please call the reservation office if you are a guest scheduled to hike during this time and have any questions regarding the closure or parking. Clifford Cliftops says "Hello down there." He told me while we were resting how the weather couldn't be better for today's hike. He has been hiking this mountain, bringing the crew supplies for more then 8 years. LLama wrangler Alan said he is his all time favorite.
Yesterday's low was 27, and the high was 41 degrees. We didn't receive any precipitation. Today is shaping up to be a lovely day. Clear skies and a very light breeze. For ya'll that get the privilege to hike today....I'm jealous! Hanging around camp isn't all that bad, but I wish I was hiking. I've been soaking up as much sun as possible, and I feel like a new man. Life is good! Hello down there. This little princess followed me from cabin 9 all the way across camp to cabin 4 this morning. When I would stop to take a picture, she would stomp and snort at me as if she was ashamed her picture had been taken. She hangs around camp most mornings. The crew and I named her Lucy. She brightens up my day even on the most cloudy. Today has been chilly up here on LeConte. The temp was 28 degrees at 5 am and continued to drop this morning. It has come up a little and the skies are currently clear. We only received .19 inches of rain yesterday and over night. The outlook looks good for the mountain the next couple of days. Come and see us!!!
Thank you Kenneth for such an amazing meal! It was truly wonderful. He made a bulgar wheat salad with kale, two frittatas, roasted potatoes, amazing oatmeal, rice pudding, homemade apple sauce and canned peaches bread, banana bread, and sourdough bread. What we lack in most things up here, we make up for in the food we eat. Yesterday's high reached 55 and the low was 41 degrees. We dodged all but one of the storms last night, and received 1.25 inches of rain in about 20 minutes. Some of the hardest rains I have experienced. It is currently 43 degrees and rainy. Happy Sunday
Hello down there! This little one showed me no fear while I was taking this photo. I believe if I would have let him or her, it would have climbed up my arm and made its way to my beard. Funny little squirrel! Okay, so how about this weather? Today is shaping up to be amazing. Sunny, with a little breeze and warm. Its currently 52 degrees. Perfect hiking weather in my opinion. Yesterday's high reached 47 and the low was a chilly 23 degrees. If you are planning a hike up to see us in the next few days, please check the weather forecast. They are predicting some stormy weather. Please be vigilant. Peace
Good morning! Apologies for the lack of blog post yesterday, the internet was as finicky as the weather. Yesterday's high was 47 and the low was a very cold 24. We had snow flurries in the morning, sunshine during the day, rain with dinner and then hail and sleet for dessert! Today is sunny but chilly, only 29 at the moment. But the sun is promising to stay out and warm us up a bit this afternoon.
Everyone have a beautiful weekend! I am off to New Orleans tonight and will be back next week! Good morning to you all! And a chilly morning at that. Yesterday's high was 50 and the low dipped overnight to a frosty 28. Currently, it is only 29 on the mountain and there is still frost on the trees, but the sun is trying very hard to fight back the clouds and warm us up. The weather is supposed to be fair today, chilly but clear, so pack warm!
Just a reminder that the Alum Cave trail will be closing in two weeks on May 4. For more information about the trail restoration and availability here is a link! http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/alum-cave-closure-faqs.htm Busy day up here at the lodge. So far the rain has held off, but you can feel it in the air. Currently it is 51 degrees, cloudy, and the winds are calm for the time being. Yesterday's high was once again 51 and the low was 44. We received another .2 inches of rain. The mountain is quite saturated and the rocks and roots are slippery so be careful out there. Happy weekend!
