Good evening,

As storms continue to roll through the mountains, we hear thunder and see lightning outside our windows. Sometimes even seeing the striking bolts of lightning above our heads. With the added strong winds and periodic hail, weather has been traitorous to say the least. While we all enjoy the outdoors, remember to stay safe as this tropical storm passes over LeConte and surrounding areas.

Although, while writing this, there are holes in the clouds allowing the blue skies to peek through. The weather is ever changing!

Yesterday, our high was a warm 59 (even with the chilly rain) while reaching 52 overnight. Additionally, we received .7 inches of rain making our total for the season 42.72 inches.

Greetings All,

I woke this morning with an overwhelming need for a tin cup full of hot coffee to warm my hands and wake my mind. As I sat, trying to be patient while the coffee finished perking, I was reminded that I am on the mountains' time. Things tend to move at a much slower pace here and it would be considered foolish to try a rush the mountain. This can also be said when talking about the weather as things on that front don't seem to be changing in any kind of hurry. With rain still falling on the summit, a total of 1.45 inches last night, and dense fog smothering the mountain, it looks to be another day of relaxing inside. Temperatures are currently at 54 degrees with yesterdays high at 59 degrees and only dropping last night to a warm 52 degrees.
For those planning a hike up expect wet conditions on trails and take extra caution while crossing creeks on Trillium Gap Trail as water levels are to be higher than usual.

Good Afternoon,

All the rain is starting to make small creeks out of some portions of the trails. We received 0.4 inches of rain yesterday and today doesn't look to be any less. Temperatures are staying just as consistent as the rain with a high of 61 degrees and only dropping to a low of 47 degrees last night.
We are sitting in the clouds today, so with blocked views we are forced to look at more immediate surroundings. We may be getting tired of the rain but watching all the water getting soaked up by plant life is getting us excited for spring blossoms.

Happy Memorial Day,

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter the words, but to live by them" -John F. Kennedy

We would like to take a moment to remember all those who have served as military personnel for this country and all that it stands for.
Today the rains have not let up since sunrise. Every once in a while we get a small break in the clouds for a nice view only to see lower rain clouds pouring down on the valley below. With temperatures in the low 50s and a slightly chilly breeze pushing the rain around you can be sure to find guests and crew hanging out by the heaters this evening.

Severe Weather Update:

A Flood Advisory is in effect for our area until 8:30 PM Sunday, which will proceed directly into a Flood Watch until Monday 8:00 PM. Several inches of rain have already fallen causing localized flooding in and around Gatlinburg, and more is expected to fall as Alberto pushes inland. Expect a significant rise in creeks and rivers coming off of Mt. LeConte as this weather persists, and use caution on roadways, trails, and unbridged stream crossings. Alum Cave, The Boulevard, Rainbow Falls, and Trillium Gap Trails remain accessible and open at this time. As conditions change we will do our best to keep you posted. Our Reservations Office will be closed Monday for Memorial Day, so please seek out the latest in road and trail information from the NPS.

Good Morning All,

Come rain or shine, hot or cold, night or day, the office at LeConte Lodge is always a good place to sit back, relax and trade stories with fellow hikers. Stocked with guitars, games, puzzles and books it is sure to be a place all can enjoy. No matter if you come up for a day hike or stay overnight at the lodge, be sure to stop in office for good times for all.

So far we have had a rain free day but it is on the forecast for this afternoon. But for now we are graced with beautiful blue skies and warming sunshine. It is currently 58 degrees on top of the mountain and expected to climb into the low 60s as the day continues. Be sure to bring plenty of water with you if a hike up is part of your day.

Good Evening,

"Rain is not only drops of water. Its the love of sky for earth. They never meet each other but sends love this way."

The rains are still falling on Mount LeConte. Scattered through out each day are spouts of heavy rain and small showers. Over two days we have received about 2.5 inches of rain. We are graced with bits of sunshine and clear views mixed in-between the rolling rain clouds. We are currently at 58 degrees and only looking to drop into the upper 40s tonight. Though the rain may get a few people down we can only think of the beautiful scenery that is to come from a good rain season.

Good Evening,

Temps stayed in the upper 40s overnight while we gained another 1.8 inches of rain. This morning, we woke up to sunny skies this morning though then, rain again this afternoon. While we expect more rain throughout the evening and overnight, you never know what the weather will do. Always remember to bring your rain gear when hiking whether it is expected to rain or not. Always better to be prepared!

Good morning all,

After waking up to dense cloud cover for the past several days, the crew were all excited to see a clear sky this morning full of color from a beautiful sunrise. With no rain clouds in sight, views as far as you can see and so many colors to soak in, it will be hard not to be outside all day. What a truly magical place we are so lucky to have.

We are looking to have a hot day for us on top of the mountain as temperatures are expected to reach the mid 60s. A reminder that temps are much warmer below so expect trail conditions to be hot and be sure to bring plenty of water.

Good Afternoon,

Today we would like to share with everyone one of our newest llamas, Smokey. This is a very big day for Smokey as he made the trip up the mountain as part of the llama train for the first time. We are so proud of him especially because this was only his third trip up to LeConte. Smokey certainly enjoys his new role and loves the hike up. He is very curious of all his new adventures and really likes to take in the views. Come say hi to Smokey and congratulate him on his wonderful accomplishments.

Its another cloudy day here at the lodge. We are staying at a comfortable 58 degrees and expecting equally warm temperatures tonight. Rain is on the forecast but staying dry as of mid afternoon.

Good Afternoon All,

Today we would like to introduce our newest crew member for the 2018 season at LeConte Lodge, Kemp Stonehouse. This is Kemps first year working at the lodge but you could never guess that based on his enthusiasm and experience on the trails in the backcountry. As an avid hiker, Kemp has completed many trails that are offered here in the lower Appalachian Mountains to the point he now has his sights on trails all over the country. In his free time he enjoys writing and relaxing in his hammock while watching the sunset. If you get the chance to come up the mountain be sure to seek out Kemp (if you don't see him on the trails already) and talk with him about hiking adventures.

The weather today is slightly chilly with temperatures in the low 50s. With the lodge completely engulfed in the clouds we are reminded of just how high the elevation really is here (6593'). Light rain is on the forecast but has yet to hit us and might just pass by.
