8:30 PM Update - US 441 (Newfound Gap Rd) will be closing tonight at 11:00 PM on account of the weather. Temps are expected to drop below freezing and lingering precip could transition to sleet and snow. Cherokee Orchard Rd remains open for guests to utilize Rainbow Falls or Bull Head trails in the morning. Good morning,
The rains have caught up to us this morning. We have already received 0.5 inches and looking to more than double that before the day is over. We are staying above freezing as of now, currently 43 degrees. Later this evening the temperatures are going to drop and this rain is going to turn into snow. Expect high water levels on the trails today. Pack that rain gear and warm layers. After today it looks like the rest of the season will be spent in clear sunny conditions but cold temperatures are expected to linger. If you are planning a hike up be sure to bring those traction devices as all this water will surely turn to ice overnight.

Looking forward to our stay tomorrow! Given the probability of ice on the trails, what is your recommendation for the best route up?

Thinking about coming down in a couple weeks to see the Christmas lights of Gatlinburg. I never post any more. But Leconte Crew have a Very Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your time off. See some of you next Spring.
