Good Afternoon,
The final weekend of August is here! What started out as a superbly sunny morning on the mountain has gradually turned into a cloudy and socked-in scene. Aside from the faintest of sprinkles at one point early this afternoon, we’ve managed to stay clear of anything substantially wet and dreary. Conditions should improve by this evening, hopefully offering up a sunset for tonight’s guests, then it’s a repeat of today’s forecast for on deck Sunday. Winds will be light to nonexistent up top, and temps will max out in the upper 60s. Another sign that summer is winding down atop Mt. LeConte, much of the vegetation is starting to go to seed. And this week will certainly witness the peak bloom for the Grass of Parnassus and Gentian that grace the upper reaches of our various trails. Have a great rest of the day.

To wake up in a cabin on my 47th birthday was the best gift I could ever hope for! The sunrise at Myrtle Point was perfect followed by a delicious breakfast of pancakes, eggs, bacon, grits and biscuits. I thank everyone who runs the Lodge and creates this most peaceful place on top of the world!!
