It was 40 when we woke up yesterday, then it dropped over a course of an hour to freezing cold, windy, rain conditions with sleet... And then snow!! It is now 24 degrees, windy, icey, and very cold.
Pack layers, gloves, crampons, layers, AND MORE GLOVES. It is slippery and icey up here, be prepared! We're not sure when it will let up. llamas tomorrow.

Peppermint Pattie made mention of JP yesterday. Came across a Smokies Life Magazine up here (centennial issue). Incredible 11-page feature he wrote titled, Wintering on Mount Le Conte. Well done!

We left the lodge Friday morning before the fun started! Maybe next year as we will be coming up a week later.

Our group of 14 hiked up the Boulevard Trail Friday in rain, sleet, freezing rain, & very strong winds. We were all grinning ear to ear once we were all warm & dry in our cabin. Not even the crummiest of weather could dampen our spirits up there. Saturday morning we awoke to a gorgeous frost covering everything. The hike down Alum Cave Trail was crisp, colorful & quick. Easily one of best hiking experiences I've ever had. The LeConte Crew are outstanding as well. And I finallt got to see the llamas! Comments are closed.
