Good Morning,
The first weekend of August is here, and even though the first schools are back in session, there are plenty that aren’t in neighboring states, so continue to expect traffic congestion in and around the Smokies this weekend. Temps will be warm and most certainly humid across all elevations. Up top we’ll continue to bounce between the 50s and 60s. Winds will be light today but could turn gusty as storms roll through. It’ll be partly cloudy skies to start this Saturday in the mountains, but by this afternoon the percentages for atmospheric activity increases. Some storms could produce heavy rainfall at times, so be alert if out on trail this afternoon. For Sunday, go ahead and copy/paste what we’re anticipating today. It’s already been an exceptionally busy year for bear activity in the park. Now that we’re getting into the time of year where berries ripen, expect plenty of foraging by the big fuzzy critters, which can happen right on the trail. Always use caution when viewing the native wildlife, especially those that are bigger/stronger/faster than yourself. Have a great weekend.

Good Morning,
Cloudy skies capping the mountains are the name of the game this morning. Best get used to it because they’ll be hanging around the majority of the weekend. By lunch time today skies are expected to get more interesting as spotty storms develop over the region. Keep the rain jackets handy as the weather can still change on a dime out there. And with such saturated surface soils, it doesn’t take much this summer for big trees and shallow roots systems to pry loose. Temps will range from the 50s this morning to the 60s this afternoon. Winds will be light during the day but pickup some this evening. For the weekend warriors trying to pick the best moment to zip in and out of the park in the coming days, the same conditions are forecast. Have a great day. Good Morning,
We have what should be a delightfully sunny day ahead of us this Wednesday. Late this afternoon there’s only a slight chance of some pop up storms, otherwise clearer skies should dominate while folks are out and about. Temps will also be warming up some again, as we could tap the lower 70s later. Winds will be light coming over the mountain. The earliest of the gentian and grass of Parnassus have appeared on Alum Cave, but the grand show of flowers won’t really take off for another week or two at least. Have a great day. Good Morning,
It might be August but summer is far from over in the mountains. Clouds and rain chances dominate the skies and the headlines again today. Expect strong storm chances to increase as the afternoon hours press on. Winds will also kick it up a notch today, with gusts of 45mph possible at times. Temps will hover between the 50s and 60s, but the rough weather will certainly add a wet chill to anyone caught out in the elements. So far the rest of the week’s forecast looks turbulent as well, so continue to pack accordingly if an overnight stay is in your future. The coneflower are in high tide, and now the white snakeroot are filling in nicely. Despite the gloomy clouds, simply let the rest of nature’s beauty brighten your day. Have a great start to the new month. |
