What odd cloud behavior we're having lately! After chilly 55/37 weather we are treated to cloudy sunsets and beautiful sunrises. Pack layers, it's really getting chilly. Keepan eye on the weather the next few weeks, with hurricanes along the coast who knows what sort of phenomena will happen.
Llamas Wednesday and Friday! Question: Which games from the office do you enjoy playing the most here up at the lodge? Any recommendations for some we don't have?

Do you have Settlers of Catan? That is a big hit for all ages.

I don't know how you'd get it up there, but there is a Portuguese coin-tossing game called Sapo that would be a huge hit up there.

I have determined that it is easier to hike to Leconte than it is to obtain a reservation! Getting too old for this stress.

Keep trying! I got through about a half hour ago and secured a reservation for our family next summer! So excited to have our son hike in the Smokies for the first time!

Yes, at the age of 39 you are definitely old and the stress becomes unbearable. But don't give up. Do that at 40 ! Reservations are hard to get; lucky "grandfathered" people are favored.

The priority or grandfathered reservations are down to less than 12% of the total reservations available. It will end at the end of the 2018 season. And after that all reservations will be obtained each year by the current lottery system which we are using now

Thankfully, the grandfathering policy will come to an end in 2017. I've always been opposed to that.

Oops...I guess I accidentally deleted a sentence in my comment before I hit "submit". I intended to say that my daughter and her boyfriend are flying from San Francisco to join us in Tennessee for that week and it will be her first time to hike up LeConte and stay at the lodge.

Woohoo! Had submitted online but was killing me not having gotten an email back yet (yes, it's only two days, but...), so I got on the phone this morning. Spent about 20 minutes calling (according to my phone it was 41 attempts) and got through! And got my first choice (and my online submission hadn't been processed yet so I'm glad I called). So my family of 5 will be making our third trip next June!

I am one of the 12% remaining with a grandfathered reservation! We have been hiking to LeConte since 1994 and were just blessed to have gotten a reservation at the right time. You can't imagine the wonderful memories and close friendships (mountain family) we've made in 22 years! We simply LOVE it! The Mountain does Call us! Unfortunately I will miss this year as I just had knee surgery, but my 'gang' will be there!
