11.20.16. Tundra up top

11/20/2016

Well, not literally.

Funny story.

It was 42 yesterday morning around 6-6:30. Within two hours we dropped to 28, our official low being 10 degrees.

10 degrees.

That's cold!

Bring layers, traction devices, and rain gear! We are not sure if we'll get much of any precipitation so plan on anything.

The wind chill is .... Not pleasant so make sure you bring thermal gear.

Llamas today and Wednesday!

It's our last Sunday everyone!

I enjoyed my first overnight stay at the lodge Friday night. The sunset, the views, the llamas, great food, good people and friendly crew made it an unforgettable experience. Thank you all so much!

Had a great visit up top today! Happy to help send Steve off to a happy retirement. I am more than appreciative for the pumpkin cheesecake and chocolate pecan pie offered from your Thanksgiving feast - both were fantastic! See you in June!

Every year around this time, when the Lodge has but two or three days remaining to be open, I get to contemplating how nice it might be for the facility to be open all winter rather than closing. Of course I realize that I am perhaps in a small minority with this opinion, or should I simply just call it a "wish" ? Naturally, the sheer logistics of keeping the Lodge open during the winter increase dramatically so it is probably not a feasible nor economical thing to do. Sure, there are plenty of day hikers who go up there all winter long, not enough to overcome the added and inherent difficulties and dangers of remaining open. So be it. Nonetheless it would be a beautiful place to be with lots of snow on the ground up there !
