An overcast, humid, rainy 67/52 day was graced with the llamas! It's overcast and drizzly up here - bring your rain gear! We have llamas tomorrow and Sunday, please leave room for them in the Trillium parking lot!

I love the mystery of the "smoke" on the mountains. We are coming up in August and are planning on bringing our 9 year-old daughter. I'm trying to decide if she will need hiking boots or just her regular tennis shoes. Does anyone have any experience with this? Planning on coming up Alum and possibly going down Trillium. Thanks in advance!

Mel, make sure you have some transportation waiting @ Trillium. The trailheads are nowhere near each other! We see plenty of people in regular tennis shoes, (even flip-flops!--God only knows how they do it!), but yeah, tennis shoes are probably ok, as long as she's prepared for them to possible be wet and muddy.

Thanks for the info Tracey! We have someone dropping us off and picking us up. Her feet getting wet is something that does worry me so we will probably get some waterproof boots. We want her to have memories to last forever and not off cold, wet feet. :)

Wow! You guys are socked in! Shrouded in mysteriously looking fog! Have a beautiful day up there!

Wow... I can remember hiking through some of that fog on a handful of occasions. As long as it isn't too cold, it can actually be one of the most ethereal experiences a person can have on a trail. The sense of isolation and absolute quiet are at once exciting and scary!

Hi Mel, we hiked up last July with our 9 year old son (Trillium both ways). I'd definitely purchase a quality pair of hiking boots for your daughter. Enjoy!!
