It was quite toasty up here yesterday , 70/50 were the temps with a random trace of rain during the afternoon.

It was a nice way to cool off us and the llamas!

The crew has noticed it being more humid and hot so we can only imagine the trails down below. Please remember to bring plenty of water with you and electrolytes. A water bottle plus some more is strongly recommended, a lot of our guests and hikers are coming up dehydrated so please pace yourselves and don't push it coming up here. Starting as early as 7 will help immensely.

It's way too hot for racing!

Tomorrow especially is going to be HOT, be careful everyone. Even though water adds weight you lose it as you hike up! There is nothing wrong with turning back on the trail if it's too hot, Or for any reason really. We up here hike to work and we know how it is! Listen to your body and don't strain it!

It sounds like we might get hit pretty hard with rain on Saturday and Sunday, hopefully that will cool us off!

Llamas tomorrow!

On 7-17-17 was the day I set out to achieve my goal to hike To Mount Leconte via Trillium Gap for my 47th Birthday and my friend Lisa went with me to celebrate. This also was a huge achievement for her since she was 4 week post knee surgery!
When I finally reach the dining hall steps, and after a quick photo, I collapsed at the top of the steps from heat exhaustion. John and his crew, along with guest and thru hikers, they stopped in whatever they were doing, into aiding me! It amazes me that the people enter your life from out of nowhere and suddenly means the whole world to me! I can't remember the guest names to personal list to thank them, but there were quite a few the help me during the first few hours after I collapsed that took time out of the vacation to help when needed. And several that just checked on me. During the duration of my stay/recovery 7-17 thru 7-19, John, and all his crew were amazing in their daily duties and selflessness acts of kindness for me and my friend, along serving the guest. Observing the crew working together and making sure their guest were comfortable... it was like a huge family function! And to listen to the visitors comment how they love the place and how things are so organized, grounds kept clean and friendly staff. The guest want to come back and stay again. I really cannot find the adequate words to describe how grateful I am for their help! When I was finally able to go home, John and Wanda (she knew and taught First Aid) escorted me down Alum Cave Bluff trail to ensure that I reach the bottom in good health to finally be picked up by my brother to take me home. God has truly blessed this mountain, not only with the spectacular views but with a gracious crew!

My sincerest appreciation,
Kimberly
