Hey Alex,
I was showing the website to a woman at work yestereday and she saw the mushrooms you use to make Kombucha. She brought me in a mushroom she said she uses to make "Manchurian Tea", along with the directions. I was wondering if it is similiar to your Kombucha? I'm going to try my hand at making a batch.
Stay warm and safe. Thanks for the pics and info.

Here we go againin west TN..round #...I've lost count. Getting ready for more snow and what we got Monday hasn't left yet. NOAA just revamped the advisory to a warning and upped the total amout to 5". Monday they only predicted at most an inch on grassy areas. Mother Nature showed the meterologists who is BOSS!!

Non-snow question - that I'm sure gets asked a lot. When the weather's good, about how long does it take to hike up Alum and back down? This would be for two healthy adults in their 30's :)

Michael,
My husband and I hike up Alum in about 3 hrs 20 minutes. We are in our mid 30's. That's with me taking pictures along the way and a break at Alum Cave and a few other breaks along the way so we can catch our breaths. We have made it down in 2 hrs but that's hiking VERY fast in the rain!

Michael,
From the folks I have talked with and my own experience 3 hrs. 30 min. up and 3 hrs. down seems to be an average. I have gone up in 2 hrs. 20 min. and down in 2 hrs. flat. But take your time and enjoy the trail and other hikers you meet. BTW I'm 61.

Thanks Kathy and Galen! In all my years going to the park I've never made my way up MT leconte! Its now on my to do list. Sounds like I definitely need to plan on bringing food and water for breaks.

I hear a lot of you saying you take water. It's also a great idea to take some snack food such as power or trail bars. I always have an epipen has my hubby is allergic to bees and a small but useful first aid kit. Makes my backpack alittle heavier but it is worth the weight! We would rather be safe than sorry!

If you only read one tidbit of advice, and plan taking the Alum Bluff trail.....think long and hard before packing a large DSLR and those heavy lenses. BAD MISTAKE! I broke down and got the little Panasonic ZS7 Lumix (complete with GPS) Fits in my shirt pocket. UNLIMITED WONDERFUL!

Do all the cabins have names or nicknames? What are the names of the ones posted on 2/9?
