Another Beautiful Day for the Books

11/6/2013

Picture
We had a perfect ending to a perfect day. After the spectacular sunrise and bear viewing I wondered what else could this day bring. It brought clear skies and warmer temperatures. The high was 51º with a low of 29º. The guests got to witness a beautiful sunset before descending the stairs to the dining room, where the glow of oil lamps and the smell of roast beef and mashed potatoes greeted them.

This morning is a little different. The clouds have moved in and the wind is whipping through trees like they are made of butter. It is raining on and off. It should make for a great hike down the mountain. I know you can not tell, but that is me being sarcastic since Chris and I will be leaving in a little bit for our final days off before returning to finish out the season.

Oh so wish I were there. Can smell the great dinner, see that beautiful sunset and then smell the cabin and the and feel how cozy it is as I slip into the crispy sheets and slumber off to sleep.

Will be hitting the trail up this Friday at 6:15 am. This is such a beautiful time of year. We had a beautiful sunset here in the valley last night as well. I will miss seeing Allison and Chris this trip. I will be up again before the season ends!

Before our first stay this year (Oct 28-29) these posts made me excited for what we could experience. Now they make me anxious to return, maybe for more than one night next time.

Missy - If you have the time, then most certainly stay two nights. My wife & I have been to the lodge several times and we're of the opinion that if we have to put that much effort into getting there, then we're going to stay two nights. That way you can relax; explore the lodge: walk out to High Top & add a rock to the pile. In other words just take the time to simply enjoy being there. If you hire a shuttle you could go up one trail and come down another. We also enjoy "being off the grid" while on the mountain. It's never too early to start making your plans for the 2014 season. Y'all have a good 'un... Happy Trails...

I agree. It certainly would be nice to have a little time to enjoy the mountain after making the effort to get up there. :)
