Another Day on Our Favorite Mountain

It's a beautiful morning. We have been above the clouds for the past 24 hours. The sun is out and it is currently 37º. The high yesterday was 42º with a low of 36º. I think the inversion kept our temperatures from dropping significantly. There is not a whole lot going on up top. We have had low numbers of guests, mostly couples. I finished up my menu for the crew Thanksgiving feast. It is our biggest meal of the season. We sit down as a family, the Sunday before we leave, and give thanks for the season and the life long friends we have made. It is one of my favorite traditions on the mountain. It takes me a few days to prep the dishes. It is a proud moment when I can orchestrate perfect timing and all of the dishes come out hot and at the same time. I always share pictures, so stay tuned.

Today will be spent preparing for the arctic blast. We have to make sure the water system is shut down and everything is kept from freezing. It is extra work on our part, but after twelve seasons, Chris has it down pat. The biggest part of the job is making sure the guests arrive safely and everyone is warm and well taken care of. So, with that being said, I think it is time to get some hot cocoa on the stove.

Great pic...as always, the mountain posts are the beginning of my day. I'm sure we will be able to smell the flavorful aromas once you begin preparations for your mountain family Thanksgiving feast. Enjoy!

Keep that cocoa hot! We're packing our fleeces, parkas and spikes (just in case). We'll see you tomorrow afternoon.

We all know the Thanksgiving dinner is for the crew, but I bet you could sell tickets and have a lotto and have 1 lucky person and their guest join you. Give the money to the crew for a bonus. Boy, I bet that would go over big! I have seen your pictures and everything looks so good. What a treat for your family/crew.

Does that mean that there will NOT be water available at the Lodge this weekend? Bringing my scout troop up Alum Cave trail on a day hike on Saturday. I was assuming we would be able to get water at the Lodge.

Thank you for the update. We are hiking up tomorrow to stay one night. The weather down here in Gatlinburg has not been too promising: cloudy, misty, wet and cold.
