Predawn lights.
Good morning! Well, yesterday's weather was a pleasant surprise! Not only did it never rain, it cleared up for most of the day and the was just lovely. The high reached 63, which is unseasonably warm (up here) for early April, and the low was only 44. Right now it is 51 degrees but the clouds can't quite make up their minds about whether to stay or go...there is rain in the forecast, so pack accordingly.

Everyone have a wonderful day!

Is the Alum Cave Trail and parking lot open this Saturday for use? Plan to hike to LeConte on Saturday.

Alum Cave trail won't close for trail rebuilding until after Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail reopens (sometime in May) is my understanding. Even then, Alum will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday each week, just like Chimney Tops trail was during that work. You can also check the park website, road and trail closures section for info.

What is the weather like up there in early September?

It's usually still very nice... but it can vary quite a bit, as a cool snap in the valley can lead to very cold temps on the top. You're safe from snow, though.

Sorta depends on which day it is. At 6,000 ft the weather can be variable at any time of the year.
