Good Morning,
We’re starting out this Friday under mostly clear skies and an otherwise calm atmosphere. Today is shaping to be a mostly pleasant day on the mountain, with the weather looking to sour by the evening. Temps should once again feel enjoyably spring-like up here with temps ranging from lower 40s at night to upper 50s during the afternoon. Yesterday’s intermittent showers produced 0.12” of rain, so expect some lingering wet places on trail. Starting tonight the clouds, wind, and rain will return which should make Saturday a stormy day in the Smokies. Rain shells and wind breakers are a good idea for guests making the trek up tomorrow, and especially day hikers who need to come prepared for spending the entire duration of their venture in said elements. Rain or shine, the COVID-19 protocols we have in place limit the number of visitors inside public spaces, and since all services are served as “to-go,” that means no inside dining or lingering. So like one would on any other mountain in the park, come dressed for spending your entire day hike outside in whatever elements Mother Nature throws your way tomorrow. The forecast for Sunday looks more promising for gallivanting in the woods. Have a great day.
