Good weather, good hiking; are those socks heavy hiking or just for the LeConte name? HAGD I am sure that most people know by now about the fire at the old Wonderland Hotel below the Elkmont campground. Ironically, I was camping there and had to have driven by after the fire was perhaps already diminished, etc. In the many years that I have visited the Park I never stayed at that old facility. I wish that I had for it must have been a grand experience, much like my favorite Gatlinburg Inn, or even a bit like Leconte Lodge maybe. Just another bit of history now gone, Sad. G'day

Sorry to hear of that fire Doug Y. Our family stayed there in the 60's and 70's. Loved sitting on the old front porch in mornings. Friday nights often had live music. One year I camped in a tent at Elkmont and it hit 18-degrees. High tailed it to the Wonderland. Sleeping bag only rated to 40-degrees. Also great for a country breakfast.

Doug what makes Gatlinurg Inn one of your favorites? Fred: It's a long story beginning in 1985. I'll try to write about it on my own site in few days. Leconte Lodge ranks high on my list of favorites, too, maybe even occupying the top spot. What it boils down to mostly is something very import to me: "Atmosphere" The Lodge has it in great quantity !

The Gatlinburg Inn history needs to be updated--stayed there a few years ago and they still had shag carpet and a green and gold theme.I am all about history but can't take neglect--just my Op-inion Comments are closed.
